Terri Malone (Margot Knight)
Initially introduced as new officer transferred from maternity (540). She makes a mistake signing visitors out, Joan covers for her and by the end of the episode she is conspiring with Joan to frame up Lou and Myra. The plan is that Terri will act as "witness" to Joan being bashed by either Lou or Myra. After a few frame-ups together, Joan obviously feels she can trust Terri enough to come out as a lesbian to her (546), and Terri makes fairly encouraging noises in reply. The development of the relationship takes a back seat to the siege plot and Terri only appears again when she raises the alarm when Lionel Fellows has Joan's kitchen set on fire (554). Terri insists that Joan moves in with her. When Joan is able to move back to her house, Terri asks to move in with her (560). It is obvious the relationship isn't going to go smoothly - in a particularly embarassing scene in (562) a waiter mistakes Joan for Terri's mother. Terri's parents visit in (563) and overhear Joan telling Terri not to reveal their relationship. Terri is called away from work in (566) when her mother attempts suicide (a bit of an overreaction to having Joan as a daughter in law?) and Lexie goes behind the other womens' backs and makes up a copy of the prison newspaper with a front page announcing Joan and Terri's "marriage". To avoid any further trouble, Terri resigns (567). After mooning around at home for a while, she gets a job with a security firm (570) and begins an affair with her boss Barry. Joan catches them in bed together in (572) but agrees to give Terri another chance, even agreeing to let her carry on seeing Barry. Neverthless they continue to argue and Terri moves out (575). Joan and Terri have a confrontation at work and Terri tells Joan what she really thinks of her (576). When Terri calls at Joan's house later the same day to apologise, Joan does not answer the door. Long after she has left, she continues to have an impact on Joan's life. In (623) Joan finds herself homeless after a fire without any insurance cover and Terri gets the blame because she didn't post the cheque. (But did Joan really not notice that the cheque had never been cashed - was her bank balance was so high that she never needed to check it?) Terri is also mentioned when Joan starts her platonic relationship with Andrew Hinton (631): she tells Andrew about Terri, but does not correct his assumption that Terri was actually Terry.
