Lexie goes to the rec room in the early morning to watch the TV for news of Rita by making a noise so that Joyce will let her out - of course by the basic law of TV on soaps, she would be able to rely on a relevant news bulletin appearing as soon as she turned the set on . Lorelei keeps Joyce busy, but Lexie has to hide in one of the cupboards below the bookcases while Officer Hagen makes a completely pointless trip to the rec room to put a notice on the board. Joyce notices that Lexie is not where she should be and catches her in the rec room. Mick tells Joan he won't leave the boat, so Joan says she go ashore in a dinghy to try to get help, and she will have to take the women with her. Rita refuses to let the women go with Joan, and learns from Mick that he has managed to get the engine going without telling anyone. Nancy's well meaning attempt to make sure that Joan is adequately prepared for her trip is rebuffed by Joan, who calles her "the worst kind of hypocrite" for siding with the women earlier. Vicki reports to Kath that Lexie has called her bluff on the protection racket and has been telling people that Rita will soon be back: Kath goes to warn Lexie to toe the line and reminds her that she killed her own child "so why should I care about yours?". Joan goes ashore alone: Rita lets her get as far as the beach then dives in to swim after her. Joan faces sheer cliffs on all sides of the beach. Nancy persuades Mick to let her and Alice follow Rita in another dinghy, but without letting him know what Rita's real plan is. Roach says she won't go and stays on the boat with Mick. Alice refuses to help Nancy stop Rita and stays on the beach with the dinghy while Nancy follows Rita. Lexie tells Lorelei she is driving her mad with her interfering. Kath tries to take Lexie's buyup instead of payment, but Lexie delivers a few lethal plimsolled kicks to Kath's ankles when she tries to take Julie's pink cardigan. Roach talks to Mick about Bongo, and how she feels it is now over between them: she says she can't go back to Wentworth. Nancy arrives at the foot of the cliffside to see Rita climbing after Joan and shouts to warn her: Rita turns suddenly and slips, but (answering Nancy's prayer), Joan pulls her to safety . Joan sends Rita back to the boat while she goes on for help. Back on the boat, Rita will only admit that she and Joan are "square", having saved each other's lives once each. Roach persuades Rita to let her escape by transferring to Rick's own boat in the harbour: Rita, Nancy and Alice will go back again to the beach and wait to be picked up by helicopter for, in Alice's words, "an hour of freedom" . Lorelei tells Kath she must drop the whole protection racket routine. When they arrive back at Wentworth, Ann sends Nancy, Rita and Alice to solitary for conniving at Roach's escape and Joan going "missing". Kath vows that she will do all she can to keep her opponents there.
