  • Tom leaves Kath alone to teach Merle, but Merle leaves the lesson. Spike's mother visits her in Wentworth. Kath tries to get Merle to come out from under the bed where she is hiding. Rita refuses any more chemotherapy treatment. Spike and her mother make up their differences. Alice tells Rita she is puzzled that she's so friendly with Joan. Lisa finds Rita's books about cancer in the reward flat and asks Alice what she knows about it. Vicki gets stoned on dope brought in by a visitor: she tells Brumby they will make hash cookies with the rest, and they convince Mervin to let them make "health" biscuits for Rita. Kath apologises for leaving Merle behind and they are friends again. Merle eats some of the grass Vicki is sprinkling on the cookies. Alice phones Ida to get her to visit Rita. Mr Hudson from the department visits to make an assessment of Ann's reform report. Tom and Kath realise Merle is stoned. Brumby says goodbye to Spike and offers her a hash cookie. Mr Hudson comes across Merle behaving oddly in his tour of the prison. Ann is aghast when Joan takes over as Mr Hudson's guide. Ida tells Rita she is worried about her partnership with Joan. Lisa blurts out that Rita is dying and Rita is forced to confirm that it is true. Mr Hudson joins the women for dinner and Kath tells him what it's really like inside prison: her speech convinces him that the reform program is necessary. Joan wakes Rita to let her out to do the job that night and gives her wire-cutters to get through the fence.
