  • Lizzie doesn't approve and tells Roxanne she agrees with the women in maternity, who were criticising Roxanne for giving her baby away. Maxine and Roxanne overhear Joan talking to Carol as she reports back to her about Jilly and asks her why she killed her husband. Bea also turns against Roxanne when she finds out about her deal. Carol asks Joan to stay for her interview with her solicitor, even after he points out that Joan could be called as a witness for the prosecution. When Bea criticises Carol for being too friendly with Joan, Carol tells the women that it was Joan who stopped her killing her child. Bea is amazed. Roxanne is warned that she will be found guilty on the shoplifting charge, and that the police have frozen her bank account. Bea hints to Joan that she knows she's having an affair with Carol, but that the women don't care whose "friend" Carol is - they still don't like her. Roxanne asks to phone the Sheldons and has to tell them she's in prison. Carol's sister Pam visits her, and tells her she cannot look after Jilly. Joan tells Ann about the women's attitude to Carol, and Ann advises Joan not to go and see Jilly or the women might get the wrong idea. David Sheldon has to tell Ann he's the father of Roxanne's baby in order to get permission to see her. Joan takes Jilly to the zoo, and they watch a seemingly interminable sequnece of different monkeys. Jilly bursts into tears when she sees a happy family there. Phyllis keeps watch while Brandy goes to the boiler room to meet Joe the repair man. "Sandy Gilham" arrives at the halfway house, having run away from her husband, claiming he beats her. Tom gives money to Brandy, but a swig of booze changes her back to Laura, looking lost and terrified. Phyllis takes her money and leaves her alone. "Sandy" tells different people that her husband's name is variously Phillip, James and Andrew. Laura is found by Colleen cowering in a corridor. Ann invites Wally to stay in her attic. "Sandy"'s fiance Phillip turns up at Driscoll: he tells Judy that "Sandy" ran away from their wedding. Judy agrees to ask her to call him. Jilly is brought to visit her mother, but sulkily refuses to say anything apart from "you killed my dad". Sandy sweeps back into Driscoll with an armful of presents for everyone. Her response to questions about Phillip are rambling and vague, and tries to distract everyone further by giving out the presents - including a huge pink boiler suit for Judy to wear while she's doing the gardening. Carol is distraught that she couldn't explain to Jilly why she killed her father. Joan tells Ann she thinks she may have made things worse by bringing Jilly in to see her mother. Ann goes to talk to Carol and finds she has hung herself in her cell .

Funny that "Laura the Librarian" whose information on the cinema in (359) was read out by Bill Buckley on Channel 5 over the closing credits gives exactly the same information as I do...
