  • Is this the first sight of gruesome twosome Lil'n'Bev?

The desk sergeant at the police station phones Paul at Wentworth to tell him of Tony's arrest, so he rushes there to bail him out. Caroline and Vivienne are brought on remand to Wentworth, and Caroline protests that she has to spend the night in solitary away from her mother who seems to be suffering from shock. Tony tells his father he knew nothing at all about the drugs, omitting to mention the little detail that he withdrew money from his bank account to help pay for them. Sharon is brought to Wentworth, as she couldn't raise bail. [This raises the question of how successful a drug dealer she is if that's the case] She plays the tearful little girl to get Meg's sympathy. Vera wakes Sharon next morning to go to court, and tells Sharon she expects her back after the hearing. Tony's committal hearing is held in camera: the magistrate accepts Paul's assurance that Tony could have known nothing about the drugs, and lets Tony go without charges. Vera welcomes Sharon back by sending her to the head of the queue in the dining room to stand next to Bea, where Sharon unwisely tells Bea what she's charged with. In the scuffle Bea comes off worst and gets a plate of (apparently scalding hot) soup in her face. Bea meets Vivienne in the surgery where she is treated for the scalding , but can't get to say anything understandable through the sobs. Erica accepts that Bea probably started the fight, but warns Sharon sternly that her attitude will get her into a heap of trouble and decides she should be kept away from the other women. Sharon asks if her "sister" Judy Bryant can visit her. Caroline requests permission to share a cell with her mother, then tells Erica she intends to lodge a formal complaint that her mother wasn't given proper medical attention. Vera wants to know why Paul is so interested in Sharon's case, and finds out from Sharon that she knows Tony. Judy arrives to visit Sharon and tells her that the charges against Tony Reid have been dropped . Vera maliciously confirms Sharon's suspicion that Tony must be related to Paul. Caroline hardly endears herself to Bea at their first meeting by sneearing at her claim to have been fighting for the appointment of a prison doctor. Lizzie advises Doreen to tell Kevin about having been in prison before he finds out for himself. Although Caroline's ex-husband Michael seems to be the only person to know about Mr Simpson's brutality, Caroline refuses her mother's suggestion and does not want to involve him. Doreen gets the taxi to drop her at the wrong house after her date with Kevin, but he sees her pretend to go in then walk away, so he follows her. He is stopped by a police patrol outside the halfway house, and the policeman tells him who lives there. Sharon tells Paul she wants him to use his influence to get the charges against her dropped, and hints that if he doesn't do what she wants she will incriminate Tony when she gives evidence.

  • The voices on the telephone when Lizzie phones in sick for Doreen both sound like Anne Phelan who appears in person in the episode after next.

The three women attacking Sharon with Margo are named Margo, Lil and Bev but in the next episode we find their sunames are Stokes (Lil), Cavelli (Bev), and Dempsey. Margo is therefore not yet "Gaffney".

Ros catches Vera listening outside Paul's door and when Sharon comes out of the office, she also notices Vera trying to plug Sharon for more information. Chrissie announces she think Vivienne and Caroline are a bit too snobbish for her liking but thinks the newspaper stories about them killing for the insurance don't ring true. Ros passes on what she has seen to Bea and warns her not to touch Sharon, as she might be under Vera's protection. Kevin persuades Doreen to phone in sick to go for a drive with him in the country. Tony persuades Paul that Sharon is lying when she says that he bought the drugs, but Tony has carelessly left his account pass book where Paul can find it and see the cash withdrawal on the day of the drugs bust. Vera tries to get Jim to join her in suspecting Paul has some prior connection to Sharon. Vivienne refuses to eat or speak (or act, apparently ). Chrissie warns Sharon not to be tricked into being Vera's informer. Caroline tries to take food out of the dining room for her mother, and Vera stops her. Paul gets Tony to admit the extent of his involvement in drugs and tells him he has to go to the police and tell the truth because Sharon is putting him under pressure. Jim goes back with Caroline to the cell to judge her claim that her mother is too sick to come to the dining room, and finds Vivienne in a state of near-catatonia. Sharon hints to Vera that she will be able to remember where she's seen Paul Reid before if Vera will get Bea off her back. When Vera half-agrees, Sharon tells her it was at the police station bailing out his son on drugs charges. Vera goes straight to Erica with this juicy piece of news, but Erica insists she has to hear Paul's side of the story. Vera gleefully points out that he hasn't been seen since earlier that morning. Dr Herbert comes to see Vivienne and finds out from Caroline that she hasn't been eating. Lizzie agrees to phone in sick for Doreen posing as her aunt. Paul manages to sweet talk Erica into seeing through Vera's accusations and Erica asks to see Vera to stop her spreading any more rumours. Vera tells Sharon that Paul's son has confessed all to the police and she has nothing over him any more. Lizzie fails to get a public call box to work, and is directed to another, which unfortunately is in a nearby bar... Bea says goodbye to Ros as she is transferred to another block to allow her to carry on with her studies. Doreen admits her age (23!) to Kevin and then has to confess that she's given a false name at work as she'd just come out of prison, but he tells her he doesn't mind. Lizzie has to wait so long to use the phone that she's totally sozzled and gets the message completely wrong and uses the name Doreen instead of Debs. Margo, Lil and Bev have been told by Bea to get Sharon, and they pounce on her in her cell and cut her hair . In the tussle, Chrissie is pushed roughly out of the way and Dr Herbert is again called to the prison to check her out. Doreen gets back from her date with Kevin to find Lizzie still the worse for drink snoozing on the kitchen table . Vera tells Bea that her attempt to get Sharon might mean that Chrissie might lose her baby. Chrissie is given an injection to slow her contractions and Dr Herbert phones for an ambulance to take her to hospital.

  • Bea watches Chrissie being taken to hospital: Meg has to accompany her. Erica asks Vera to fetch Sharon, and Vera responds that it would be more to the point to see Bea. Paul appeals to Bea to get the women to support the craft project he is planning. Sharon complains to Erica that Bea was behind the attack, but Erica decides not to speak to Bea until she can see Chrissie first. Chrissie tells Dr Herbert she will look after her daughter without the help of any man. Meg passes on to Erica the information that she got from Chrissie that Bea was behind the attack on Sharon. Paul and Meg have a heart to heart about children and the problems they cause. Next day, Sharon's attackers are released from solitary. Margo won't lag on Bea under questioning from Erica and she and her two cronies are sent back to solitary for another 48 hours. Erica then sees Bea and tells her that she has given up on her, and is sending her to the isolation block indefinitely. Vera tells Paul he can forget about the craft project now that Bea is in isolation, so he tries to plead Bea's case to Erica - but for once without success. Sharon taunts Bea as she is taken to isolation. Chrissie's contractions start again and Dr Herbert thinks it may be impossible to delay the birth any longer. Chrissie wakes to find she has had her baby under heavy anaesthetic and knows before she is told that it is a girl. She says she will call her Elizabeth: not as Dr Herbert suggests after the Queen ("Bugger the Queen") but after Lizzie. Meg tells Bea about Chrissie's new baby. Mr Muir sacks Doreen for not turning up to work. She blames Kevin for telling the boss she was a criminal, but he finds out that Lizzie did phone in sick for her but under the wrong name. Lizzie comes to the prison to visit Bea but Vera sends her away. She complains to Jim who overrules Vera's decision. During the visit Lizzie suddenly remembers where she has met Caroline and Vivienne before. Bea passes the information on to Jim. Although they both try to evade Jim's questions, Caroline eventually admits that they were at the halfway house. After a visit from Judy, Sharon tells Meg that Judy isn't her sister but her lover, and when Meg tries not to look shocked, Sharon speculates that she might be lesbian herself. Dr Herbert tells Chrissie that Elizabeth will need medical attention for a long time and will have to stay in hospital when Chrissie goes back to Wentworth.

  • Paul asks to see Bea to find out how she is getting on with the craft project: he agrees to try and get her out of isolation if she carries on with the crafts to set and example and encourage the others. Vera tells Bea about the condition of Chrissie's baby out of spite when Bea cheeks her. Bea tells Bernadette, the prisoner who brings her meal, to tell the women to stop work on the crafts project. Jim wants Erica to take action to let the police know about Caroline and her mother going to the halfway house, but she thinks it would be better if Paul went to see the women there first to let them know they can talk freely. Paul arranges some sales outlets for the women's craft work and promises them a constant supply of goods. Margo is the only one to object when Bernadette passes on Bea's orders though her enthusiasm for making soft toys is greater than her skill . Rhonda catches Lizzie drinking and pours it down the sink, but Lizzie has another bottle hidden away. Vera insists on searching the craft goods herself before they leave the prison, but when she goes to the rec room she is delighted to find that none of the items are finished and takes a box of them to show to Paul. Lizzie tries to get back in Doreen's good books by offering to give Doreen half of her compensation money, but Doreen says she doesn't need to do that as she'll soon be getting the money from her mother's estate. Paul accuses Bea of playing games to get out of solitary: she tries to pretend she has nothing to do with the women's decision. Shirley suggests the girls at the warehouse should take Doreen out for lunch to cheer her up. Judy visits Sharon before her trial and tells her she hears from her solicitor that the judge assigned to the case is soft and will probably let her off with a good behaviour bond. Kevin goes to the halfway house to pick up Doreen and meets Lizzie, who gets invited along to the dinner as Lizzie's "auntie". The judge at Tony and Sharon's trial is changed at the last moment to one who's much harsher on drugs offenders. Jim gets impatient with Paul's failure to go to the halfway house as he promised and goes himself, still in uniform. Rhonda tells him where Doreen and Lizzie have gone for lunch. Sharon gives evidence that it was Tony who supplied the drugs and who planted the money on her just before the raid. Jim's arrival at the pub shocks Lizzie and she gives the game away about Doreen and her having been in Wentworth. Doreen is worried that Kevin won't want to see her any more now their secret is out. Vivienne thanks Jim for arranging for the halfway house women to give testimony for them but tells him in private that Caroline's ex-husband might be a more useful witness. Sharon's lawyer sums up for her and implies that everyone else's evidence is a pack of lies. Kevin tells Doreen he thinks they shouldn't see each other for a while. The judge gives Tony and four of the other defendants a bond, but he rejects Sharon's story completely and sentences her to two years in prison out of a possible maximum of ten years.

  • Erica stops wearing the elegant black arm slings she's been wearing since she returned to work.

Sharon is brought back to Wentworth protesting loudly, but manages to recover sufficiently to make an indecent proposal to Vera when she is searched before her regulation shower. Vera accompanies Chrissie on a hospital visit to see Elizabeth. Jim tells Paul he's already been to the halfway house, but Paul reminds him it was against regulations for him even to contact ex-prisoners. Jim tells him about Caroline's husband but agrees to leave it to Paul this time. Caroline eventually agrees to her husband being contacted. Pat tells Chrissie that Bea has been sent to isolation and Sharon confirms that Bea was responsible for the attack which endangered Chrissie's baby. Lizzie decides to decorate the hall at the halfway house to get Doreen's mind off Kevin. Vera notices Jim is getting too close to Caroline and reports him to Erica. Bea fakes a jean zip crisis to get Jim to leave her alone for a moment with Pat to get the latest news on whether the women have returned to work on the craft project. Chrissie is put into the same cell as Sharon: they come to an agreement about Bea. Judy visits Sharon for the first time since the trial, and Sharon asks her to bring drugs in to use to pay off her enemies and buy supporters. Later on, Judy cons her way into the garden with drugs hidden in the cash clip from her taxi and hides the drugs in a border near the entrance door. Erica comes out at that moment and sends Judy away. Lizzie gets drunk and confronts Kevin about his treatment of Doreen as he leaves work. Lizzie goes back to Kevin's flat, but has difficulty getting up from a beanbag on the floor. Sharon tempts Chrissie with the prospect of the drugs Judy has planted, and shrewdly calls Caroline to get Jim to take her and Chrissie outside, knowing that Jim will be so distracted by Caroline that he won't notice Chrissie grubbing in the shrubbery. Chrissie drops some of the pot into the teapot bound for Bea's cell. Sharon then makes it look as though Bea had asked her to supply drugs. Vera tells Bea the women are back working on the craft project, and by implication that her days as top dog are over. Kevin turns up unexpectedly at the halfway house to invite Doreen on a date. Sharon offers Pat a smoke to help her sleep, and Caroline also asks for something to calm her down. Caroline's husband arrives for a visit. Chrissie makes a detour to the gate of isolation to tell Bea that she and Sharon have taken over. Even with a security gate between them, Bea grabs her and manages to inflict some damage, but Sharon arrives to separate them by biting Bea's hand. Michael and Caroline bicker in the interview room and Jim throws Michael out. Sharon seems about to seduce Chrissie with a skilfully applied neck massage , intercut with a parallel courtship during a romantic candlelit dinner of Kevin and Doreen. At the end of the episode, Kevin proposes to Doreen.
