Doreen ignores Gloria's order to keep quiet about the gun and tells Judy, who demands that Gloria hands it over or leaves. Gloria has no option but to give up her gun. The women discuss how to fix Joan: Hannah suggest that if they all ignore her orders the Department will have to remove her. Steve refuses to support Meg's idea that Hannah should be transferred to Barnhurst, because it would look like rewarding her for being difficult. No-one responds to Joan's wake up call, but the women meekly follow Colleen's orders. The same thing happens again at breakfast when Joan orders them to move out. Chrissie tells Joan what is going on and offers to make a deal if she returns the betting money she took from Doreen, but Joan declines the offer, saying she prefers to deal with Bea direct. Joan overhears the other officers in the staff room discussing her "precarious" position. When Meg visits the halfway house, Doreen tells her that Joan took her money. Joan requests Union support from Meg, so Meg asks her if what Doreen's story about the betting money is true. Joan denies it, and Meg agrees to put her case to the members, while letting Joan know that as far as she's concerned, she ought to kicked out of the job right away. Judy goes to confront Donna about Susie's sudden high spirits, and finds her shooting up. She takes the syringe off Donna and slaps her face. Bea writes Chrissie off when she obeys Joan's order to talk to her outside the laundry, but Chrissie makes a deal with Joan: she demands, and gets, the betting money back. She hands the money over to Bea and tells her she had no intention of keeping her side of the bargain by calling off the boycott: after all, it's Bea who's top dog, and the women follow her not Chrissie. Chrissie gives the money to Bea, who announces that the boycott is still on. Joan's claim for Union backing is discussed: only Meg votes against supporting her. Joan finds she is overoptimistic in hoping that handing the money over has solved her problem. Doreen starts work at the shoe factory. George Logan tells Barbara they have lost a large contract: her suggestion of selling off surplus stock he's already claimed as a tax loss gives him the idea for a shady deal. Colleen warns the women of the consequences of an officers' strike if they persist with the boycott. Joan tries to drag Hannah out of the rec room to talk to her, but the other women stand in her way. Barbara offers to get investment advice for Doreen from her boyfriend Phillip. Erica asks Bea to back down, but Bea merely repeats her allegations against Joan. Doreen sees the shoes being loaded onto a van and overhears part of the conversation between George Logan and his business associate. Mr Logan tells Barbara to put the $10,000 in cash in the safe and orders her to fire Doreen when he finds out she is an ex-prisoner. The women hold a meeting during exercise period: Erica asks Joan to get the women inside, but they refuse to move .

  • Susie/Jacqui Gordon appears twice in the credits, the first time in the place usually taken by Steve/Wayne Jarratt.

Barbara offers to take Doreen for a coffee to explain why she had to sack her. Chrissie and Hannah object to Bea's insistence that the women stay outside, but she tells them no-one is going in until she says so. Barbara offers to write Doreen a reference, but Doreen tells her it wasn't the job itself so much that was important, but rather the idea of being accepted. The women stay outside until dark and light a fire in a skip to keep warm: Joan turns the fire hose on them . Hannah persuades Bea to give in and try again with another protest when they are better prepared. Doreen takes her sacking resignedly, but agrees with Judy that they should do something to help Susie. Erica tells Joan not to push the women too hard. Judy phones Joanne Slater to help get Susie out of her depression. Colleen tells the women they have lost privileges for a week. Bea returns from an overnight stay in solitary and tells the women she's agreed with Erica that they won't do the same thing again. When the women voice their dismay, she says she only meant that next time they will win. Judy tells Jo what has happened to Susie since she got out of jail. Colleen hints that it would be better for everyone if she played down her report of the incident in the grounds. The women's second protest is to barricade themselves in the dining room . A new resident, Eileen Connor, comes to Driscoll House: Gloria immediately starts to ask questions. Bea gets the women to agree to let Hannah out of the dining room for her court appearance. Joan refuses to get Lizzie's pills from her cell. Susie runs to her room when Judy tells her she has a visitor and she sees it is Jo. Jo follows her and appeals to her to come and live on the farm with her and the family. Barbara's boyfriend Phillip mentions a business deal which could benefit them both, but tells Barbara she will need capital. Barbara tells him that's no problem: she will just get it from her boss. Susie leaves the halfway house to go and live with Jo. Eileen offers to take Donna out to a contact to buy drugs, but when she finds Donna already has some, she says she'll be lookout for her when she's ready to take it. Lizzie refuses to leave the dining room, even though Bea tells her she can if she wants. Eileen bars the door and tells Donna she's from Des: she pulls out a syringe and attempts to inject her. Gloria breaks the door down, shoots Eileen and arrests Donna. Barbara lets herself into the factory at night and takes $7,000 in cash from the safe, putting the rest back. She is disturbed by the sound of someone else in the building, and leaves the safe door open in her hurry to get away. Someone sets fire to the factory, trapping the night-watchman, but he also takes the remaining $3,000 from the safe. Bea asks for medical assistance from Lizzie, but Joan refuses unless the women give up their protest .

  • Barbara's flat is a strong contender for the title of Most Hideous Interior Decor Ever Seen in Prisoner: the two monstrous flower paintings are particularly unpleasant.

Steve takes Joan to one side and warns her she's going too far. He goes to fetch a doctor for Lizzie, but Joan returns to Bea and pretends that both she and Steve are going home for the night and walks away, pausing out of sight round the corner to see what Bea's reaction will be. After a few agonized moments, Bea calls Joan back and gives in. When the women dismantle the barricades, Joan lets only Bea out of the dining room in order to send her to solitary. Meg has fortunately remembered about Lizzie's pills and brings them to her. Steve is appalled by Joan's tactics and tells her she'll be in a lot of trouble if Lizzie dies. Sen. Det. Bradley asks George Logan for a list of people who might have a grudge against him, including those who have been sacked recently. Bea hints to Meg that if the officers agree with the prisoners' account of how Lizzie was treated, they could force Joan out. Barbara gets a cheque in Phillip's name in exchange for the $7,000 cash. Phillip is waiting for her outside the bank in his car, and when she asks to be driven to work, he says she can't have heard about the fire on the news. Donna is brought to Wentworth on remand for violating her probation, prostitution and possession of drugs. Hannah returns at the same time on remand pending sentencing. Joan orders Bea off the press and replaces her with Hannah. Bea refuses Donna's appeal for help in getting off drugs. Phillip suggests that Barbara might not have to repay the money if traces of ash from the $3,000 she left behind are found near the safe. However, the police do not find anything, and assume the fire was to cover for a robbery. Meg visits Lizzie in hospital. When she is questioned about the sit-in, Bea's only comment to Erica is to complain about Joan's indifference to Lizzie's illness. As one of the people on the list of recently ex-employees of Logan's, Doreen is interviewed about the fire, and is reminded of her record of starting fires in Wentworth. Erica criticises Joan for her inflexible approach, but Joan surprises everyone by agreeing to Hannah's reclassification and transfer to Barnhurst. Doreen packs a suitcase ready to leave the halfway house, but Judy persuades her to stay. Mouse tells Donna to start a fight during exercise period so she can get a used syringe out of the incinerator. George Logan hides the $3,000 in a cushion in Barbara's flat when she invites him for coffee to discuss how to deal with the police investigation. Donna takes the heroin she brought in, and dies almost instantly in Bea's arms. Bea is distraught at failing Donna and blames Judy and the halfway house for giving Donna the opportunity to get back on drugs, but Meg tells her the heroin was cut with battery acid and may have been sold to Donna deliberately to get rid of her. Doreen tells the police about the deal she saw at the shoe factory. Meg has to intervene to stop Bea feeding Mouse the dope she was given by Donna as a payoff . The police search Barbara's flat and find the money: she is charged with arson, theft and murder.

Barbara Fields is taken to Wentworth in the same van as Paddy Lawson , who goes wild on being put in the van and has to be restrained by Joan on arrival. Paddy kicks out at Sister Johnston when she tries to sedate her, but Joan takes the hypodermic and does it for her. Doreen looks for new accommodation. Maxine arrives at Driscoll, asking to stay for a few days: Judy is persuaded when Doreen tells her Maxine gave Joan a hard time in Wentworth. Barbara is put in solitary, still demanding to see her solicitor. Sister Johnston hands in her resignation to Colleen, but is persuaded to accept long term leave instead. Mouse tries to talk to Paddy in solitary, but Paddy attacks her through the spy hole and gives her hair a godd pulling. Judy reluctantly agrees to let Maxine's boyfriend Spud stay overnight. Barbara begs Phillip to get her out: he warns her not to mention the land deal until it goes through and asks her to sit tight. Chrissie and Mouse discuss how Paddy is likely to get on with Joan ... and Bea. Barbara introduces herself to Chrissie, who recognizes her name as the person who shopped Doreen. Judy goes to collect the forms to licence the halfway house. Barbara collides with Colleen as she runs through the corridors, and is put on kitchen duty by Colleen to calm her down, but she and Colleen are attacked by Paddy when they take a tray to her in solitary. Steve coaxes Paddy out of solitary to see Erica: Paddy is quite meek in Erica's office but is unhappy at the suggestion that she might be sent back to solitary. Doreen visits Lizzie in hospital to tell her she has a job as a live-in home help. Spud and his gang menace two old ladies into buying soft toys from the shop in the halfway house. Paddy is introduced to the women and is to share a cell with Bea. Meg returns from a hospital visit and inspires Steve to look into the possibility of Lizzie getting parole on health grounds. Doreen returns to the halfway house to find Spud's gang having a drinking session, and phones her new employer to ask if she can move in straight away. Erica arranges for a local councillor to visit Driscoll to help Judy with the forms. After a veiled threat from Bea, Barbara tells Erica she wants to give the police information about the land deal, but Detective Bradley demands all the details, including Phillip's name. Judy arrives back at Driscoll to find Spud and his gang making merry, and Doreen packed up ready to leave. Unfortunately Councillor Barnes chooses that moment to visit.

  • Judy tells Maxine to piss off and hold her parties somewhere else. Steve checks up on Barbara: she tells him she wasn't responsible for the night-watchman's death but admits it wasn't the first time she'd "borrowed" money from her employer. Bea notices Paddy's agitation in their cell at night, and tries to get to know more about her. Paddy tells Bea she worked as a motorcycle courier and Bea correctly guesses that she'd come from the country to the city. Bea wants to know why Paddy attacked Barbara, but fails to spot Paddy's momentary panic when the lights go out. Maxine wants to make up to Judy for any trouble she caused. Meg teases Steve when he tells her he thinks Barbara is innocent, and wonders if the fact that she's young and pretty might have anything to do with it. Maxine's "help" consists of shoplifting goods from a hardware store. Paddy apologises to Barbara for attacking her, but when she senses that Barbara is a bit scared of her, she first cadges a cigarette then takes the whole packet. Judy tells Meg she is going to advertise for an assistant to help at the halfway house. Bea finds out from Meg that Lizzie is coming back to Wentworth, and about Lizzie's application for parole: Meg suggests that Bea applies too. Bea is slightly flustered by the idea, but seems to be considering it seriously. Judy is interviewing Mrs Malone for the post of assistant when Maxine returns with her stolen goods. Phillip visits Barbara to ask her to sign a release form to agree to give the money back, then tells her he is quitting as her solicitor. She attacks him and has to be dragged off by Steve, who hears her accusation that George Logan framed her. Maxine tells Judy the stolen goods are second hand so she can sell them in the shop. Faye is brought back to the laundry. Bea wants to know if any replacement is being found for the Sister, especially for Lizzie's sake. Steve tells Meg he's going to check out Logan and she offers to go with him. Lizzie returns and finds that Bea already knows about her parole application: she tells Lizzie she's applied too. Neil Murray arrives as to take up the post of nurse and tells Erica he wants to help the women by giving them the right attention when they need it. (The secretary in reception fondles her pen thoughtfully at this ... )Erica introduces Neil to the women in the dining room: Chrissie says he can examine her whenever he likes. Colleen is annoyed when she finds out that Steve and Meg are investigating George Logan to help Barbara. Bea is told her parole application has been rejected, but is encouraged to try again in three month's time. Erica tells Bea to stop fighting other people's battles and look out for herself for a change. Colleen advises Neil to keep an eye on the drugs and surgical alcohol. Meg and Steve find out from a barman that George Logan was in the bar drunk on the night of the fire and so he didn't have his car with him. Faye and Paddy go to collect cleaning materials from the storeroom: when the lights go out, Paddy falls to the floor and curls into a ball, but quickly recovers and attacks Faye. Faye later mocks Paddy in front of the other women for being afraid of the dark. Steve and Meg get their car stuck in the mud and are helped out by a passing motorist in a Range Rover, who turns out to be George Logan. Chrissie tells Paddy she needn't worry about antagonizing Bea, as she won't be able to fight back without putting her parole in jeopardy. Neil catches Lizzie trying to smuggle a bottle of surgical spirit out of the surgery in her cardigan pocket. Bea stops a fight between Faye and Paddy , and Joan walks in on cue to demonstrate to everyone that Bea won't risk her parole. Joan orders Faye out of the dining room and tells her she going to start the book up again. When Faye objects, Joan points out that Bea won't give her any trouble, but that if she does, she should ask Paddy for protection.
