  • Kath is set free after being punched several times in the stomach . Vicki sets a drier on fire to set off the alarms (though of course if the driers are airtight enough to have suffocated Ann Yates, closing the door after throwing in a lighted rag would only make the fire go out). Kath threatens once again to have Rita sent to Blackmoor, but Rita has to leave off the beating up when the fire alarms is sounded. Kath and Rita turn up last for the line up for the fire roll (which, oddly, is taken indoors). Kath goes to Rita's cell with back-up to announce her terms: Rita must give in and let Kath control all the rackets she likes or she will be transferred to Blackmoor. Rodney is annoyed to be posted to Smithton for "falling down on his written work" and goes to the staff room to have a rant at Delia and Marty. Rita tells the other Warriors they can't take any action against Kath for the moment. Peter visits Nancy to tell her not to believe what Danielle told her about them having "rows". Joan agrees with Rita suggestion that they cease hostilities as they are quits. When Peter goes back to the car it turns out that Danielle is waiting for him: we she has a black eye. Kath arrives in the rec room with a group of supporters: Merle announces that the women feel there should be a vote for a new top dog. Rita refuses to stand against Kath, who is voted in. Joyce relays the news to Ann in the staff room. Rodney goes to say goodbye to Kath, but she pretends that she wants him to stay. Rodney goes to Mr Watkins at the Department to appeal against his posting: he tells Mr Watkins he would be better at Wentworth, as he has an informant and that the women in C block are forging visitors' passes in the workshop. Ann is not pleased to be ordered to keep Rodney at Wentworth. Rita and Alice plot to separate Kath from her supporters, by tieing the security gate with wire while Alice bashes Kath. Nancy can't take part as was originally planned, when her other son Harry comes to visit. Vicki returns with the cash collected and Kath decides to double the protection money. Harry is visiting Nancy after hearing about the boat trip. Rita goes to see Ann to give herself an alibi. Harry tells Nancy that Peter is not as she remembers: for instance, she never knew about his vandalism. Nancy suddenly starts to piece together why Danielle came to see her. Lorelei decoys Kath's supporters to the laundry with some schoolyard abuse. Rita has to stage a faint to prevent Ann leaving her office to investigate the forged visitors' passes found in a search. Alice and Kath fight, but Alice is sprayed in the face with an aerosol. Lexie trips Kath as she passes her cell and Rodney helps her up. Kath overhears Ann warning Rodney of the dangers of using informants. In another rec room showdown, Kath blames Rita for the increase in protection payments. Marty and Delia have a picnic in the grounds and he tells her about his phobia: Meg tells them Wentworth has been asked for volunteers to help control bush fires.

  • For this and the following episode only, the opening mugshot credits include four faces - the extra one is Kath's.

The women are sweltering in the heat, but Lorelei brings Lexie her own electric fan as approved by the Governor. Kath tells Vicki to fake an attack of nausea, sending the naive officer on duty after her. She demands the fan from Lexie with a threat of violence and makes a point of noting that Rita is sitting there doing nothing to stop her. Rodney volunteers to help fight the bush fires. Rita refuses to get involved in the dispute with Kath, despite Alice's attempts to persuade her. Nancy tells Alice and Rita she's heard Danielle crying when Peter took the phone away from her. Joan tells Mervin and Joyce she's signing the papers to buy their flat, but they have to point out they might not be able to move out straight away (or, in fact, at all...). Marty reacts tetchily to Rodney's snide remarks about what he was doing while others were fighting the fires. Kath orders Rita to operate the press for her due to the heat. Nancy gets a letter from Peter telling her not to worry, which has the opposite effect. Marty talks to a maintenance man at the prison who makes him feel even more guilty for not getting involved with the fire fighting. Rodney talks to Kath as she's taking a shower : she flirts with him and asks him to open a bank account for her on the outside. Lorelei finally gets through to Rita, who decides she ought to cheer up a bit for other people's sake. Nancy asks Meg to visit Danielle. During the exercise period, Rita plays with the hose and sprays Rodney. Lexie gets tipped out of a wheelbarrow which causes a moment of panic. Kath offers to lay bets with the TAB for a percentage of any bets laid. Rita sees the Conquerors on TV and changes her mind about helping with the fire: Meg suggests the women help Mervin make sandwiches for the fire fighters. Alice slips love letters into the sandwiches she makes. Rodney tells Marty he's volunteered him to help by taking his place, having had his suspicions aroused by Delia telling him not to push Marty too hard on the issue. Meg fails to persuade Marty to change his mind. Rodney is worried what other people will think when even Merle has noticed that he's always hanging around Kath. Rita rejects Lexie's idea that they try to get Merle away from Kath's influence by offering to let her join the Warriors: she points out that there are no Warriors anymore. Kath persuades Rodney to lay the bets for her. When Ann gets home she finds Dan waiting for her: he has come out of hospital a week early and has nowhere to stay because he let his own flat go. Mervin has to tell Joan that the finance on their home has fallen through, but she still demands that they move out. Merle is fascinated when Lexie lets her feel the baby kicking. Joyce stands up to Joan and tells her they are not moving out so she will have to get used to the idea. Dan tells Ann that he's fallen in love with a nurse who looked after him at the hospital. After the women are locked up for the night, Lexie goes into labour .

  • Merle is wearing a badge that says "CAPTAIN MARVELOUS CLUB" .

Rodney disparages Marty to Officer Radcliffe saying that "if you can't keep a cool head under pressure, you don't belong here." Lorelei calls for Rita at Lexie's request, but the officers ignore the calls assuming the women are only complaining about the heat. When Rodney comes along to tell the women to shut up, Rita grabs Rodney by the throat to force him to open her cell door . Nancy comes up behind Rodney and bashes him over the head with a book and takes his keys. Rodney takes one look at Lexie and passes out. Alice uses her animal husbandry skills to deliver Lexie's baby. Rita claims the fan back from Kath, telling her to keep quiet and not alert the officers. Lorelei tells Rodney not to spill the beans or they will tell everyone about him fainting. Ann asks Dan to sleep in the spare room until he makes up his mind between her and his new girlfriend. Rodney is sent back with Lorelei to make sure the duty officer doesn't miss him. Alice tells Nancy she's worried when Lexie's contractions stop, but they start again. Kath and Merle talk in their cell as they listen for what is happening down the corridor. Merle notices Kath is in tears and realises the reason, saying that is must be bad for there to be anything wrong with your baby. Kath hopes if Merle has a baby it will be alright, but Merle tells her that she has been sterilised. The baby arrives, with Rita pacing up and down nervously outside as if she were the father. Alice tells Rita the baby has to go to hospital, so Rodney goes to call an ambulance. Ann is called at home with the news of Lexie's baby, so she decides to go straight there. Rodney's story is somewhat unconvincing, but Ann does not challenge the details. Lexie is refused permission to go to hospital with the baby immediately but she is told she will be allowed to go to the hospital every day. Meg calls round to see Joan to ask if she take some time off to see Nancy's daugther in law. She admits to Joyce that she is worried that Marty hasn't rung her. The Conquerors collect Dan from Ann's to go and fight the fires. Kath gives Rodney the bets for the TAB. Meg visits Danielle while Peter is at work and notices Danielle has a black eye. Lexie visits her baby in hospital accompanied by Joan (who was earlier making a fuss about being the only one on duty at the prison). Meg tells Nancy her suspicions are justified. Ann tells Lexie she will be recommended for early release as she can't be found a bed in hospital. Lexie hands round the cigars given her by Jessie and gives one to Merle. Lexie thanks Alice and tells her that Jessie is arranging something that will be arriving for her in the afternoon. Joyce and Mervin tell Ann about their accommodation problems and ask for financial help to put down a bigger deposit. Merle picks up the present thrown over the fence for Alice. Nancy phones Peter and tells him to visit her urgently. Ann tells Meg that Marty is missing, and that a body has been found.

Merle hides Alice's present in the cold store while she's on kitchen duty. Ann prevents Meg rushing off to find Marty by telling her she's expecting to hear from Dan at any minute. Lexie points out to Rita that Kath no longer has any hold over her, so what is she planning to do about deposing Kath. Merle moves the parcel to Rita's locker, in the process upsetting Nancy with a badly timed imitation ("BIFF! POW!") of Captain Marvellous. The women find Meg in the rec room watching the news on TV. Vicki wins on the races: Rita flushes the radio down the toilet when she finds them in the shower block listening to it. Nancy becomes obsessive about cleaning the floor of her cell, and has apparently managed to move one of the lockers away from the wall unaided. She doesn't respond to Rita at first when she talks to her, but is eventually persuaded not to worry about the visit from Peter. Meg and Delia comiserate with each other in their worrying about Marty. Alice and Lexie search the grounds for a parcel without success. Merle unwraps the present, which is a male sex doll, and inflates it . Nancy confronts Peter but he blames Danielle for making up stories: she makes him admit he is beating his wife and insists he seeks help. Meg is asked to identify some personal effects found in the fire area: Delia offers to go with her. Kath is put under pressure to pay up, but she says her contact hasn't been able to give her the winnings yet. Lorelei proposes a sweep to help select a name for Lexie's baby. Meg talks to the last woman to see Marty: he went back into a burning house to save a dog. The women watch Meg reduced to tears by a TV reporter until she is rescued by Dan. Kath tells Rodney he must bring in the money immediately: he hands some of it over. She also asks him to investigate Spider Simpson from C block, who Vicki thinks would be able to provide a new radio. Danielle does not come to see Nancy as Peter promised, and Nancy asks Ann to contact her. Kath buys a radio from Spider and offers her a partnership. Kath is annoyed that Spider knew about her partnership with Rodney and accuses Vicki of talking. Meg blames herself for making Marty feel guilty about his fear. Merle brings the dressed up sex doll to show him the rec room and the kitchen. Nancy has no success convincing Danielle that she is not to blame for what Peter is doing to her. Marty is discovered safe with the dog he saved . Rita has to tell Merle the doll was for Sister Hall for first aid training and give it mouth to mouth to persuade her to give it up. Kath pays a woman from C block to bash Spider. Danielle gets no help from the police when she goes to report him, so she accuses Peter of killing his father and letting his mother take the blame for it.

  • The fire alarm sounds while the women are showering causing a minor panic, with Delia idiotically trying to stop the women going outside. She says the fire has been contained and it was only a dormitory in C block that had been set alight. Meg tells Marty about being frozen in fear during a riot. Dan reads a thank you letter to the women from one of the fire victims: Rita proposes they follow up with a charity telethon (inspired by Bob Geldoff and Band Aid). Nancy is questioned by the police and is forced to lie about Peter to protect him. Dan tries to persuade Ann to support Rita's idea for the telethon. Nancy tells Rita the truth about who killed her husband and asks for advice about what to do. Spider introduces herself to Kath by karate chopping her in the back of the neck to pay her back for the fire which destroyed all her goods for trading. Lexie is told she can stay in hospital with her baby and will get Ann's recommendation for parole. Lorelei suggests a farewell party, and Spider offers to supply booze (at a price). When Kath warns Spider not to call Merle "looney" she claims it was her who gave Merle the nickname. Joan squashes Marty's delight about the telethon and tells him the idea has been vetoed. Nancy tells Dan her decision: she will give evidence against Peter. Lexie distracts Mervin in the kitchen by asking for baby name suggestions: meanwhile Lorelei lifts some goods for the party. Kath doubles Spider's price for the party booze, much to her displeasure. Joan makes catty remarks about Delia's weight when she sees her with the bunch of flowers Marty bought her. Nancy tells Rita she won't go to Lexie's party and asks if she can have some peace and quiet. Joan meets Alice, Rita and Lorelei in a corridor dressed as Boy George and scents alcohol on Rita's breath: Lorelei promises to pay her off to keep her quiet. Lexie makes up as Madonna (with "Like a virgin" earrings ) then wipes it off, only to find that her friends are all done up as Boy George . Lexie announces she will call her baby Julian Larry (not Clary, alas) and gets various presents from the women. Nancy sees Peter and tells him her decision to tell the police the full story: the police arrest him after overhearing his admission of guilt . He rounds on his mother, calling her a bitch. Nancy tells the women she is to be released that day after telling the police the truth. Rita follows her to say a personal farewell: Nancy tries to make her promise not to get back at Joan or Kath. Alice worries what will happen now there is only her and Rita. Joan hustles Lexie away and out of the gates refusing to let her say goodbye to her friends, but the women hitch a lift on the garbage truck as far as the wire .
