Craven orders Walters to break up the fight. Rita is put in the pit. Kath notices goods are missing from the shop, and takes the credit for giving them to the women, but tells Joan what has happened. Roo takes it out on Brumby, so she tells Roo that Bongo is Rita's brother. Roo passes the information on to Craven and tells Bongo to persuade Rita to lay off. Brumby arranges a meeting between Bongo and Rita. Merle persuades Pamela to tell the women a dreamtime story: she holds the women spellbound with a story of the origin of black swans, which is counterpointed with the women at Blackmoor breaking Rita out of solitary to start a riot. Spike goes to find Bongo to prevent him being taken hostage. The officers fire on the room where Roo is being held. Walters goes down a manhole. As a first step, Kath persuades the other women to take part in a roof-top protest. Rita takes two guards hostage. Delia is knocked out to get her keys. Kath tells Rodney to phone the press. Lorelei is suspicious of Kath's motives, especially when Alice is sent to speak to Ann, but Sarah volunteers in her place. Rita gives up one of the wounded officers and sends a taped message to Craven. Spike tries to bring Bongo to Rita, but he is captured by the officers and handcuffed to a grating in the exercise yard. Craven offers to swap Bongo for Walters. Joan, Marty and two other officers arrive to help the Blackmoor officers. The women at Wentworth show the banner to waiting reporters: it reads "CLOSE BLACKMOOR" . Lorelei and Alice pull Kath into sight to make sure she gets part of the credit , but Rodney points out she is obviously under duress. Marty volunteers to talk to Rita, but Craven uses it as a cover to open fire and make a simultaneous attack through an underground passage. The women manage to hold off the attack. Kath blames others for the trouble at Wentworth: Alice, Lorelei and Sarah refuse to admit responsibility and Ann announces she will discipline the whole of H block. Spider concedes defeat to Kath, but tells Alice that she intends to get inside the racket and expose Rodney and Joan. Rita tells the women at Blackmoor to build bonfires. Marty is sent back to Wentworth, and tells Meg that he will go to the press over Craven's treatment of the prisoners: Meg points out that his only witness is Joan. Rita cracks and agrees to swap Walters for Bongo. When Bongo is freed, he is disoriented and goes the wrong way, to be shot down on Craven's orders by one of the guards . • Three of the Blackmoor women (r to l): "Shazza, Cheryl and Speedy". Never seen again, of course.

The women at Wentworth watch the Blackmoor fire on TV. Kath tries to find out from Rodney if Rita is coming back to Wentworth, as she's heard that women from Blackmoor are to be transferred to Wentworth. When the women from Blackmoor arrive, Rita is not among them. Craven and Joan arrive at Wentworth, and Craven contemptuously silences the hubbub in reception. The women are locked in their cells without finding out what happened to Rita. Ann warns Craven not to undermine her authority by ordering the prisoners around. The Minister phones Ann to confirm that Craven is only to supervise the men's section of the prison. Ann cooly deals with Craven's annoyance at this by inviting him to call Mr Dwyer if he isn't happy, but suggests that now might not be a good time, as his administration of Blackmoor has just cost the Department a lot of money. Meg warns Marty not to confront Craven. A rumour circulates that Rita has escaped. Craven threatens Spike and Brumby not to talk about the circumstances of Bongo's death. Rita is brought back to Wentworth, welcomed by a punch from Craven and put into solitary. Joan dismisses Ann's allegations against Craven and says that Bongo was trying to escape. A group of men from Blackmoor arrive at Wentworth and are sent to A block. Pamela slaps Craven for his racist comments, then asks Ann to transfer Sarah and other prisoners to prevent reprisals from Craven. Sarah manages to let the other women know that Rita is back before she is transferred to Barnhurst: they all start a welcoming chant. Kath listens to it stonyfaced. Meg pleads with Craven not to put in a report on Marty, but he makes it clear that sexual favours would be required in return. Kath introduces herself to the Blackmoor women as the top dog, but they just laugh it off. Merle bumps into Craven and he snaps her bull roarer. Alice nearly drops her breakfast when she finds out there are men in the prison. Craven defends himself against charges of sexual harassment by making counter accusations against Meg that she "blatantly offerred herself". Marty reacts strangely at sight of Spike, and checks her file to find that he knew her in school. Craven opposes Ann's plan to allow fraternisation between the men and women, but Joyce discovers Alice in the laundry skip attempting to put the plan into action. Joyce leaves Merle and Lisa unescorted while she takes Alice back to H block. Spike pretends at first not to recognize Marty, but asks him to keep her background a secret from the other women. While Merle tries to trade comics with one of the male prisoners, Lisa is grabbed by another but is saved by Joyce and Merle. Craven and Joan indulge in some mutual back slapping. When the announcement is made that the men and women will be allowed to mix, Lorelei hatches a plot to get back at the men for the attack on Lisa.

Alice goes to the kitchen to introduce herself to the men, and is set up by Stud with Archie Trimble, and locked in the cold store. Joan forbids Kath from selling contraband to the men, as with increased security she is very likely to be found out. Archie turns out to be a toothless old crock. Ann warns Rita not to cause trouble either with the Blackmoor officers - or with Kath, who is now top dog. Rita tells Alice and Lorelei that she isn't interested in getting back at Rita, only at Craven. Rita gives Kath the cold shoulder when she tries to be friendly at dinner and snaps at Alice when she says she knows how she feels about Bongo's death. Marty gazes dreamily at Spike's file (which appears to have been issued by the Central Correspondence Bureau ) and has a misty flashback. Craven and Joan heavy Rita: he warns her not to press for an investigation and threatens to get at her via her friends. The Minister decides there will be a Departmental investigation into Bongo's death after Rita ignores the threats and makes a formal complaint. Marty is put on three month's probation as a result of his "insubordination" to Craven during the riot. Rita asks Lorelei and Alice for cash and tells them she has to move fast to get Craven after his threats against them. Kath offers Rita a bottle, but she smashes it on the floor. Lorelei goes to court. Rita buys a knife from Spider. Craven tells Stud to bash Alice at the social meeting with the women. Lisa tries to decoy Stud behind the shed, but he asks for Alice instead. As they go behind the shed, the other women grab him and take his clothes off. Craven stirs up Stud's feelings of humiliation at the hands of the women. Lorelei is returned to Wentworth on a five year sentence. Craven orders Joan to have her put in solitary, but she insists that Lorelei must not be hurt. Spike investigates the possibilities of communication within the prison, putting Spider's nose out of joint who sees it as her province. They fight and when Marty tries to put Spider on a charge for attacking Spike, but Spike takes the blame. Craven prevents Ann sending Spike to solitary, claiming she is claustrophobic. Joan goes to Lorelei's cell, throws her tray on the floor, puts her on a charge and takes her to solitary, ignoring Rita doing exactly what Lorelei is supposed to have done. Alice and Rita speculate about Joan's motives for having Lorelei sent to solitary. Craven lets Stud and Billy into solitary the same night wearing hoods , and they hold Lorelei down and rape her.

  • Lorelei is found next morning in a state of shock by Lisa and Rodney when her breakfast is delivered. Lisa reports back to the women, but Rodney's main concern is whether he will be blamed. Joan hears about the rape when she arrives at work and is outraged so she goes to Craven and threatens to expose him to the police if there are any more incidents. Lorelei is unable to identify her attackers: Sister Hall advisers Ann there is no immediate physical evidence of intercourse, and that further tests are necessary so Lorelei must not shower. Craven blames Rodney, but Ann demands he provide an account of his officers' movements. Joan tries to tell Lorelei she had no idea what would happen when she sent her to solitary. Rita chokes Joan to get her to admit that Craven was responsible, and tells her to inform Craven she is dropping the charges over Bongo's death, and will settle it personally instead. Ann sees Rita comforting Lorelei, and decides she is too upset to be faking and calls in the Minister immediately. Kath, Rodney and Merle go shopping and Merle befriends a young boy in a Captain Marvellous costume , catching a bus to go home with him. Kath and Rodney realise too late to catch her. The women start a chant of "Rapist" when Craven enters the dining room: Rita grabs a fork and goes for him. He coshes her and has her sent to solitary. Joyce tells Ann that Craven provoked Rita: Ann replies that she is requesting his suspension. Craven visits Lorelei in sick-bay, threatens to harm Zoe if she will not withdraw her allegation and tells her to shower. Kath persuades Rodney to delay reporting Merle's absence to give them a chance to find her. Meg finds Lorelei wandering the corridor after her shower. Ann places the charges against Craven before the Minister: he is not impressed and Joyce makes matters worse by reporting Merle missing. As the Minister is about to interview Lorelei, Meg tells Ann that Lorelei has showered. Spike tries to work out a way of getting a message from solitary to the other women, which treads on Spider's toes. Alice tells Spike and Spider that they have to work together. The Minister questions Lorelei: she denies the rape took place and implicates Ann in a plot to get rid of Craven. The Minister appoints Craven as Acting Governor in Ann's place. Spider spitefully sends Joyce to the boiler room where Alice and Spike are checking the pipes. Joan threatens to change her evidence if Craven won't stand down in her favour. Alice and Spike block a toilet to get a plumber to come in to steal his plans. Rodney gets a rocket from Craven for losing Merle. Tommy takes Merle to his garden shed, and she agrees to stay there. Craven tells Joan he has stepped down as Acting Governor: Joan is not feeling magnanimous and sneers at him to "get out of my chair".
