  • Meg mentions other prisoners who have died of drugs overdoses - Donna Mason and Sally Lee.

When Meg comes to Erica's office to look for her, Ted Douglas tells her that Erica has resigned and shows Meg the resignation letter, but he admits under pressure it might be more accurate to say that Erica was sacked. He cautions Meg against making too much fuss, as she might ruin her chances of being considered a candidate for the post. Lainie tells Lizzie and Maxine that the real credit for the tattoo program should go to Judy for embarassing Ted Douglas. Nola reacts furiously to Lizzie's suggestion that her protest was useless after all, and insists the women should support her as she's the only one who can stand up to the officers. Bea is brought back to Wentworth, and Meg has to take over from Joan and induct Bea herself to prevent an incident. Colleen comes into work in a tan suit and tells the officers she has been appointed Acting Governor, and has chosen Meg as Deputy. Joan looks askance at this and tries to push Colleen into tightening security, but she resists. Lizzie sees Bea in solitary when she delivers the meal tray and tells the women Bea is back. Nola vows to bash Bea for taking her money. Colleen urges Meg to apply for the Governorship - at least to stop Joan getting it. Meg suggests that now Bea is back, Colleen could ask her for help stamping out the drugs trade and earn herself a few good marks with the Department. Colleen puts this proposal to Bea, but she just shrugs and says she doesn't lag. Maxine pleads with Nola not to let on to Bea that she's been involved in the drug dealing. Joan visits Bea in solitary to tell her she hasn't forgotten how Bea made her look foolish, then goes to Nola and tells her she wants her to bash Bea. Bea tells Lizzie she doesn't intend to try to get back as top dog and resists Meg's emotional blackmail about stopping drugs getting into the prison. Dianne operates the sewing machine while stoned and puts a needle right through her finger. Ted Douglas makes it clear to Colleen that he wanted her to appoint Joan as Acting Deputy, and privately encourages Joan to apply for the Governorship. Lizzie tells Bea about the phoney priest so Bea forces Mr Barker to hold a Bible class for the women to expose him. Nola tells Phyllis that when she's got enough money she's escaping and not coming back, unlike Bea. Lizzie tells the women Erica has been sacked. Judy sees Denise Tyler shop-lifting and pays for the food she's trying to steal to get her out of trouble: she gives Denise the phone number of the halfway house if she needs help in future . Mr Barker exposes his ignorance of the Bible, but passes prayer cards to Nola impregnated with LSD. Joan checks Mr Barker's credentials by phone, and calls in the police before Colleen gets the chance: he is arrested by Det. Insp. Grace . Nothing is found in a cell search and Nola overhears Colleen saying that they will bring in sniffer dogs. Maxine remarks that if that doesn't bother Nola, she must have a very safe hiding place. Bea looks pensive and leaves the room. Nola follows, dragging Lizzie along as a witness and catches Bea looking in her hiding place .

  • Judy shouts up the stairs to an invisible "Ellen" - this seems to be Dave Worthington's favourite name for a halfway house resident.

Thanks to Craig Semple for pointing out how hardworking Officer O'Shea is. Not only is she inside escorting Lizzie to the infirmary but also at the same time on garden duty outside as Joan takes over from her at the start of the next scene.

Lizzie is amazed when Bea openly admits she stole the money. Nola, Lil and Mary bash Bea : Lizzie alerts Joan, but she sends her down to the next floor to report it to Officer O'Shea and lets the guilty three escape. Nola exposes Bea to the other women. Maxine is reluctant to believe it, and Lizzie points out it was Nola's money she stole, so it hardly counts as stealing from a friend. Colleen asks Lizzie what happened in the library, but she tries to pretend she didn't see anything, even after Colleen points out it was she who raised the alarm. Colleen orders Nola to be put on garden duty until the situation calms down. Zara Moonbeam is brought in on remand for fraud charges and detects bad vibrations in Wentworth . Meg has great difficulty parting her from her ankh. Nola hides the dope in the garden as the Drugs Squad arrive with dogs to search the prison. Joan asks for a few days off to see her father who is coming to visit, but is refused by Colleen. Colleen visits Bea in the infirmary, but she refuses to help Colleen either by saying who bashed her on by helping stamp out the drugs trade. Nola complains to Joan that she can't get goods in any more and isn't pleased when Joan admits it was she who informed to the police. The women form their first impressions of Zara - most are sceptical of her powers even when Zara says that "death follows" Nola . Joan is again refused leave to see her father even though she hasn't seen him for years and Colleen grudgingly allows Joan to invite the Major to "inspect" the prison. The women are impressed that Zara can detect from "vibrations" that the pack of cards had been used by Lizzie, but Phyllis reminds them that Zara's inside for fraud. Zara insists her powers are real, even though during a "bad patch" she faked a seance. Maxine tells Lizzie that Nola has promised to supply Lainie with dope, so Lizzie asks Maxine to buy some dope for herself. Denise phones Judy for help when she is arrested for shop-lifting. When Maxine reports back that Nola says she can't get the stuff until tomorrow, Lizzie works out the drugs must be hidden in the garden. When Judy goes to see Denise, she comes across a group of kids fighting including Denise's son Russell who is being bullied by his brother Gary. Lizzie fakes a cough so she can get put on garden duty. Nola isn't pleased to see her there. The tattooist arrives and Phyllis, Maxine and Lainie are called to the rec room, though Maxine chickens out at the last moment. Lizzie pretends to lose her pills as an excuse to stay in the garden and digs up the drugs. Lainie shows the women the scab on her chest after the tattoo treatment. Lizzie visits Bea in the infimary to report that she's found Nola's drugs: Bea tells her to get rid of them, so she flushes them down the toilet. Nola finds out and threatens to bash Maxine to get back at Lizzie.

Lizzie scuttles off to find Maxine to keep an eye on her. Denise and her kids stay at the halfway house, but the kids end up fighting when Gary provokes Russell. Meg tries to find out if Joan is applying for the Governorship, but Joan takes offence at Meg's assumption that she would be doing it mainly for the sake of her father's approval. Lizzie tells Maxine that she's in trouble with Nola over something Lizzie herself has done. Denise and family go home after they are provided with a stove and a lamp to help them out until the electricity is reconnected. Joan refuses to get further supplies in for Nola and tells her she will have to make her own arrangements. Maxine creates a stir in the dining room to get into solitary, but Meg assumes the insurance scheme is back in operation and gives her cleaning duties. Judy gets Captain Barton to help Denise: he brings her some food vouchers. Maxine tries to apologise to Meg when she finds he is going to be on cleaning duty on her own all day, but Meg insists and even refuses to let Lizzie help her. Nola steals away from work and bashes Maxine. Bea comes out of the infirmary and is anxious to find out what's happened to Lizzie. When she returns to her cell after her shower, she finds Maxine, but Maxine won't go to the sister for treatment. Bea starts to have second thoughts about lagging on Nola. Gary Tyler isn't grateful for his mother's new found culinary skills and runs out of the flat. Bea comes back to the laundry and tells the women what Nola did to Maxine. Nola ignores her and offers to sell the women prayer cards soaked in LSD. Babs drops acid and becomes fascinated by the sheets in the laundry . Joan's father Major Ferguson arrives at her house, but tells her he can't go to dinner with her until the next evening as he's made arrangements to meet an old Army friend, so she offers to take him round Wentworth during the day. Zara asks permission from Bea to make a bit of money from doing tarot and palm readings. Lainie returns disappointed from a visit from Alan, as he's told her he's leaving for the country to go fruit picking. On his tour of inspection, Major Ferguson meets Lizzie: Joan is embarassed by his gentlemanly interest in her and outraged when Lizzie introduces him to Bea. The women are amazed that he might be related to Joan. Lainie also takes some acid. Zara reads the cards for her, and sees disfigurement, but pretends she's made a mistake and shuffles the cards again. The Major invites Colleen and Meg to dinner with him and Joan. Zara predicts Nola's death. Lainie tries to cut out her tattoos with a piece of broken mirror while under the influence of drugs, but Bea talks her down then leaves Phyllis to keep an eye on her. Bea threatens Nola with the piece of mirror but Meg arrives to to send the women out on their exercise period. The women ignore Joan's request to go back inside in front of her father to embarass her, so she asks Nola to pull the women into line. She shrugs and directs Joan to Bea, who leads the women inside again . Joan feels humiliated by the incident and tells Nola she has to get rid of Bea permanently.

  • Colleen remarks of the restaurant, "Lovey's": "I've been here before". Indeed she has - with Chris Young in (351).

From the discussion between Judy and Maureen, it appears the film they've seen was "Alien" (1979).

Nola agrees to go along with Joan's plan when Joan tells her it mean that Bea will be in hospital for the rest of her life but that no-one will be blamed as there won't be a mark on her. Lainie is locked in for the night still hallucinating: Bea tells Joan that Lainie's taken drugs but Joan ignores her and locks her in anyway. Colleen tells Meg she doesn't really want the Governor's job but if Joan gets it, she's leaving. Meg comforts Lainie when she finds her in a distressed state, and Colleen calls in Inspector Grace. He collects Lizzie's prayer cards, and questions Nola while her cell is searched: Joan finds torn pieces of more cards in her bin. Nola is put in solitary. Joan tells her it will work to their advantage as it makes it look less likely they are working together. Meg and Colleen go for interviews for the Governor's job: Meg tells Colleen that Joan has been in the interview room for nearly three quarters of an hour and they gloomily suspect that Joan may get the job after all. Zara tells Bea that someone called Debbie is trying to get a spirit message to her, which stops Bea in her tracks: she tells Zara not to play stupid games with her. Zara is taken aback until Lizzie explains to her who Debbie was. Denise goes to help at the halfway house. Bea suspects it was Lizzie who gave Zara Debbie's name as a joke. When she gets nothing from the women she tries to heavy Zara, who insists she isn't faking. Maureen at the halfway house is volunteered to help baby sit for Denise. Bea gives Zara a slapping to warn her to shut up about her spirit messages. Zara talks to Bea privately later to apologise and comes up with some convincing details about Debbie. She tells Bea that Debbie claims she didn't overdose but was murdered. Bea is upset by this and starts to talk to Zara as if she is really talking to Debbie. Outside the rec room, Joan congratulates Zara for following her instructions, but tells her this is only the beginning. Major Ferguson flatters Colleen and Meg at dinner and ignores Joan. Joan eventually decides she can't take any more and leaves the restaurant. Colleen is sent by the Major to apologise to Joan for him but can't persuade her to come back. He goes out himself to talk to her on the pavement : she tells him he's always ignored her no matter how hard she tried to impress him and hails a taxi to take her to Wentworth for the evening shift. Zara is taken late at night to Bea by Joan and pretends to be Debbie's ghost while Lizzie and Maxine sleep. Bea is clearly frightened by the mysterious scratching noises and a distant voice calling for "Mum". Judy and Maureen call in to see Denise on their way back from the cinema but she won't let them in. The caretaker opens the door and they find Denise cradling Russell, with Gary's dead body lying on the floor nearby. Ted Douglas arrives at Wentworth next morning and stuns Joan, Meg and Colleen by introducing to them the new Governor, Ann Reynolds .

  • I have corrected the misspelling Kerry "Jocobs".

Lizzie claims as a proof of the range of her experiences that she has "the kiss of life from Vinegar Tits". She is presumably referring back to episode (169).

Colleen attempts to be gracious in defeat and offers to show Ann to her office. Ted Douglas shows his usual tact and crudely hints that Meg should leave him alone with Joan so they can talk. From his talk of "putting the Department first", Joan correctly surmises that Ann was not Mr Douglas' own first choice as Governor. Colleen and Meg are surprised at how well prepared Ann is for her job, but when she admits she's been reading up on it for two weeks, they realise that their own interviews were a sham. Ted Douglas come in just as Ann is mentioning contacting the PRG and he tries to dissuade her from it. Bea is very touchy when Lizzie tries to get her to defend Zara from the women's taunts. Joan visits Kerry Jacobs, a school friend of Debbie's, and gets her to give her some letters from Kerry under the pretence that it will help with Bea' s defence. Joyce Barry fails to recognise the new Governor's name when someone phones the switchboard asking for her, and she tells Meg she thinks she or Colleen ought to have got the job. Denise is brought to Wentworth on remand for murder: her main concern is how Russell is and she asks to phone Driscoll to find out, but is refused permission. Ann questions the decision to have Nola put back with the other women, but agrees to follow Colleen's advice. As Colleen fetches Nola to see the Governor, they pass Denise being taken to solitary. Nola hails her as a fellow murderer, upsetting Denise as she can't understand how Nola knows. Ann warns Nola to expect things to be a bit different now she is Governor: privately, she asks Colleen for the background on Nola's contraband and finds out about the suspicion that an officer is involved. The Major comes to Wentworth to make amends with Joan, though he seems to have forgotten that Joan even applied for the Governor's job and might be disappointed not to have got it until Meg reminds him. Judy meets Ann and tips her off about the women's attitude to prisoners who mistreat children (strange that a supposed ex welfare officer should not know this?). She also asks Bea to keep a look-out for Denise - which is a mistake, especially in Bea's current state of mind. Ann goes to see Denise in solitary to tell her Russell is OK, but also to warn her to keep quiet about what she is charged with. The women in the laundry get their first sight of the new Governor when Ann drops in to give them a totally misjudged speech on how she will want to get to know them all individually rather than from the details in their files. Bea reacts cagily that she won't be trying to put one over on Ann in a hurry. Nola tells Joan she's noticed the change in Bea and wants to know what's going on, so Joan tells her she will need her help to make sure that Bea gets another message from Debbie - this time in writing. Joan disabuses Denise of her naive faith that she can keep her crime secret from the other women, and points it up by telling Maxine, who is delivering the meals to solitary, that she hopes she wasn't eavesdropping on the conversation. Maxine duly reports back to the other women in the laundry, but Bea says she already knows. Judy visits Russell at the children's home: he tells her that what happened to Gary wasn't his mother's fault. Bea corners Lizzie and asks her if she can remember hearing voices in the night, but Lizzie reminds her she's a very deep sleeper. Zara tries to convince Bea that Debbie won't be trying to pass any more messages through her, and that it is now up to Bea to see if she can contact Debbie in her own way. Joan pretends she's too busy to see her father to avoid having to say goodbye to him face to face. Ann visits the halfway house and has to pass on the Department's ruling that Russell can't see his mother: Judy points out to Ann that she is able to make her own decision on this matter. Denise happens to choose Bea to ask for directions to the rec room: when Bea works out who she is, she pulls her into her cell and throws her on the bed ready to give her a bashing. Joan finds Denise later crawling along the corridor and Denise immediately tells her it was Bea who bashed her. Ann wants to know why Denise wasn't being watched more closely, so Collen retorts that the staff are too busy correcting paperwork at Ann's insistence. Joan lets the women know that Denise lagged as she collects Bea from the rec room to see the Governor. Ann sends Bea to solitary for 48 hours. The gate guard brings in a cardboard box to Joan left at the gate by the Major: it contains a Rottweiler puppy, which she decides to call "Major" . Colleen makes a routine check on Bea in solitary and sees her sobbing on her bed calling Debbie's name.
