Meg is just visiting Ann to discuss what the doctor told her, when the call comes through to Ann about Pixie's rape. Joan tells Len he helped to put the final nail in his coffin himself by punching Myra in front of witnesses. She adds that if he's hoping to pin the rape on Frank she can forget it because he's got a cast iron alibi, provided by her. Most of the women are dubious about going along with Joan's plan and want to know why they shouldn't tell the truth, but Judy is the first to say they should take the opportunity to get rid of Len. Inspector Thorne arrives to investigate and Joan doesn't lose the opportunity to get in a dig at Meg for not turning up for her shift. Frank is leaving the rec room when the women arrive but Judy pushes him back into Chris' therapy session, allowing the women to vent their feelings against Frank. Joan is interviewed by the police: she denies telling him the women were making booze and says Frank was working in the library under her supervision at the time of the attack. Lou insists that the card game with Marlene should go ahead anyway, as she doesn't think they should waste too much time feeling sorry for Pixie. Judy describes how she found Len in Pixie's cell and the attack on Myra. Bobbie warns Marlene against getting involved with gambling and Lou, but is accused of being jealous. Lexie also refuses to back out and says she doesn't see why Bobbie is so concerned for Marlene. Lou tells the police Len raped her too. Frank tells the police about Len's violence against the prisoners at Woodridge, though the police don't seem to think it worth asking Frank about the scratch marks on his right cheek. Meg finally tells Ann her bad news about the tumour. The card game goes ahead, and Lexie beats Marlene taking all her money. Len is charged with rape and assault and taken to the police station. Marlene tells Matt about Pixie when she takes his meal to the infirmary. Joan visits Len in the police cell to offer her "sympathies" and reminds him about Kevin Nielsen as an implicit threat to take his punishment or she'll tell the police the rest she knows about him. Lexie throws Marlene's money back at her and tells her to stick it in her piggy bank until she's old enough to play with grown ups. Sam asks Ann for day release to see her mother and proposes (for the third time) her plan to build the robot teaching aid. Yemil agrees to try again with Ahmed when he visits her. Ann tells the women that Myra has concussion and will be back in a few days but that Pixie has been moved to a psychiatric hospital. Sam's request for day release is turned down. Peter tells Bobbie he'd take her out on a date if he could. Dennis returns, with Meg remarking that it took the Department to lift his suspension (as if the writers forgot that he left to go back to England with his wife). Lexie accuses Marlene of ripping her poster: Alice brags later that she did it and she and Marlene fight, with Marlene coming out of it worse. Joan gives Meg the message that Peter Wright's trial is to be held the next day. Lexie and Marlene agree to make peace. Matt and Frank fight in the library after Frank brags to Matt with what he did to Pixie.

Joan stops the fight and corrects Matt's "misunderstandings", reminding him that it was Len who attacked Pixie, but noticeably doesn't put either of them on a charge. Sam passes on Yemil's news that her husband is trying to arrange bail for her. Lexie takes offence at Marlene's shocked reaction when she tells her about her mother, who was a prostitute. Geoff returns from hospital and Matt tells him what has been happening while he was away. Lou gets a parcel containing sheets of artists' materials. Judy (who is now wearing Pixie's pink headband as a scarf) is upset to see Frank walking around unpunished. Yemil promises not to tell anyone about Sam's plan to escape to see her mother. Lou tells Frank and Fran that the paper is soaked in LSD and the crayons contain cocaine. They agree to help her sell it. Lexie finds Frank's pumpkin beer in the garden, which explodes when it is disturbed , spraying foul smelling vegetable matter all over everyone. Ann agrees to reinstate Geoff's correspondence course. Bobbie and Marlene see that Lexie has scars on her back, which she implies came from her mother. Sam recruits Geoff to help build the robot. Lou opens up shop for drugs and demands insurance and half the women's buyup. Dennis finds out about Meg's rape and pregnancy from Joyce's inadvertent burblings. Joan catches Lou handing drugs over to Fran to sell in the workshop, but Lou threatens to expose Len's frame-up, pointing out that though she may be involved in it she has a lot less to lose than Joan has. Yemil's bail does not arrive and she believes for a moment that her husband doesn't want her out. Joan slaps Lexie when she casually makes a threat to expose the frame-up on Len. Meg is upset to see Peter Wright arrive at court looking so respectable. Lou holds Judy against the drier when she tries to hold out over the buyup and insurance and to prove she has taken over as top dog. Sam's sister visits and says her mother is getting better, but Sam doesn't believe her and thinks that her mother must be a lot worse than she is being told. At Peter Wright's trial, the prosecutor mocks Meg for delaying reporting the rape and claims Meg led Peter Wright on and had willingly had sex with him. Meg's affairs with Jonathan Edmunds and Phillip Cleary are dragged up as proof of her promiscuity. Bobbie gets a kiss from Peter. Judy "composes" a little tune on the rec room piano [*]. Geoff realises what Sam is up to. Peter Wright claims he picked Meg up in a singles bar. Bobbie and Peter do without lunch and sneak into a hiding place to make love. Dennis is amazed to hear what happened to Heather after he left and accuses Joan of hounding her out of the service. Despite an absolutely awful closing statement by the prosecutor to the nine-person jury, Peter Wright is found guilty. Joan arrives home to find Shane has run away from his foster parents and wants to stay with her instead. Bobbie is called to the Governor's office and told to prepare herself for some shocking news.

[*] As soon as the camera moves off her and the dialogue between Geoff and Sam takes the attention away from what she is playing, Betty Bobbit naughtily starts to pick out a halting version of the show's theme tune.

  • Bobby is to attend a special parole hearing: Stan and Edie have applied for her to be released on licence and come and live with them. Shane tells Joan he thinks the Taylors don't like him and he doesn't like them either, especially the daughter Tracey. Lexie attacks Marlene when she calls her mother a child basher. Frank and Lou rough up Judy to make her pay her protection money and Lou walks off with Judy's buyup. Chris tells Meg that she doesn't need to worry about Peter Wright any more, as he got eight years. Lexie doesn't agree with waiting for Myra's approval and defends Lou's right to sell drugs. Joan phones the Taylors to tell them that Shane is safe and tells Mr Taylor that she wants to talk to them about Shane's future. Bobbie takes some acid that Lexie has bought for her, but Marlene refuses to take one. Frank lets slip to Geoff that he had advance warning on the attempt on the men's lives and had himself put in solitary deliberately. Bobbie has a bad night: Dennis realises why when he sees her next morning but doesn't report her. Joan takes Shane to school. Alice reminds Lou that Dennis knows there are drugs in the prison. Joan visits the Taylors and finds out that Shane's story was only one side of the story and that Shane is being very difficult. Mr Taylor invites Joan to dinner to see for herself. Lou finds her dope has gone from its hiding place: she accuses Frank of taking them, and attacks him but he knocks her out with a single punch. Bobbie's hearing begins and Stan and Edie try to get her to look on the positive side. Dennis finds Lou still groggy and assumes she's under the influence of drugs and tries to get her to lag, assuming that Lexie is the drugs supplier. Lou tells Alice they are going to have get the drugs back off Frank before there's a cell search. Ann puts a word in for Bobbie at her parole hearing after her recod of escapes is brought up. Dennis accuses Lexie directly of supplying drugs and she points out she doesn't need to with her skills in card playing (and other things). Lou demands Joan's help to get back her drugs and tells her where to look. Joan realises there will be a search and volunteers to search isolation. Bobbie is told the board's decision is in her favour. Joan finds the drugs in Frank' cell, but doesn't let on and pockets them. Matt tries to cheer Marlene up by telling her about seeing a UFO. Bobbie gives the women her good news. Yemil hears from her solicitor that a witness to her accident has come forward and she could get a suspended sentence. Bobbie tells Marlene and Lexie to stop squabbling and for her sakes they agree to try to get on a bit better. Joan refuses to let Bobbie go back to the rec room to say goodbye to all the other women. Bobbie goes through the gates and the women shout their goodbyes through a window after Marlene has smashed it.

Ronnie is called "Corbett" at mail call.

  • Joyce is amazed that the women want to pay for the window out of their wages: Meg points out they wouldn't have had to break the window if Joan had let Bobbie say goodbye to the women. Jan brought to Wentworth on a 3 month sentence for drunk driving: Joan finds a law book in her case and is annoyed when she is corrected on the detail of the induction procedure. Chris leaves to take up a research grant in Canada. Jan is put in to share with Yemil and asks if she can work at something secretarial. Lou and Kath examine Sam's art paper in case it is the LSD impregnated stuff. Joan tells her that whoever took it got rid of it before the search (which Lou doesn't believe) and points her in the direction of the new inmate as a source of ready cash. Sam hands over the completed painting of the Major and Shane to Joan. The men redecorate the library. Geoff tells Frank that in future he's sticking with him in case he gets another advance warning of a death threat. Yemil introduces Jan to the women: Judy warns her she'll be a source of cheap legal advice. Joan visits the Taylors again for dinner. Frank and Lou try to find new sources of income after the drugs have gone. Shane has a tantrum when he is corrected by members of the Taylor family and Joan has to stay out of it. Joan is impressed with the Taylors' line on discipline and tells Shane he should give them a chance. Marlene is missing Bobbie and Lexie tries to convince her she could be an adequate Bobbie substitute. Mr Taylor says he would welcome her having a greater involvement in the family perhaps by visiting at the weekend. Jan starts to ask around about what illicit substances are available. Frank tears Yemil's prayer book to make her pay up her protection money, and she hands over the money her husband gave her. Dennis criticises Joan for not letting Bobbie say goodbye to the women and warns her he'll be standing for Union rep. Lou announces she's starting a numbers game and forces the women to pay up for numbers she's chosen for them. She also sees Jan's hands shaking and offers to get her whatever she wants: it turns out to be alcohol. Judy fights Lou when Sam refuses to pay up for a number: Dennis puts them both on a charge. Yemil takes the laundry trolley round to give her the chance to wreck Frank's cell. When Dennis discovers her, she knocks him out in a panic. Judy finds Yemil running away and sends her back to the laundry. Joan sounds out Officer Slattery about her standing for Union rep. Yemil is panicky and thinks she won't get out of prison now. Judy takes the blame when Joan finds her standing over Dennis, and attacks him again to make it look more credible. Joan sends Judy to solitary. Dennis visits her in solitary to tell her he knows it couldn't have been her who attacked him: he agrees not to tell who really did it. Lou reads a letter from Frank's "mother" which is a veiled hint to "stay indoors" to avoid "getting something of that chest of yours". Ettie arrives from Barnhurst and seems to be under the impression that World War Two is still going on. Lou makes Jan pick the winning number, but Lexie realises they are all the same when Fran wins and demands their money back. Dennis is elected Union rep. Frank pretends to go outside for the rec period, but hides instead. A sniper aiming at Matt and Geoff hits Joyce and Lexie instead. Lexie says "it's only a flesh wound... I've always wanted to say that" . Geoff assures Marlene that the sniper wasn't aiming at the women but at them, and guess who's still indoors...

After the wounded have been taken to the infirmary, both Dennis and Ann agree that Geoff is right in saying that the gunfire was meant for them. Frank tries to get away by taking Ettie hostage inside, but Ettie trips him up, and Geoff and Matt finish him off. Joan takes the opportunity to stir it up with the staff and criticise Dennis over the issue of security for the officers. Lou tells Frank she doesn't like being shot at when he tries to press her to do business with her. Matt goes to see how Marlene is doing after the panic over thinking she was shot: he silences her prattling by giving Marlene a kiss. Joan outs Matt on a charge for being in the women's cell block . Kath and Alice aren't happy that Lou wants to keep Frank on. Ettie imagines that Ronald Reagan is only acting the part of President after seeing him in a Western on TV. Inspector Thorne questions Frank about his mother as he has obviously seen the warning letters. Lexie notices that Marlene is putting on more makeup than usual. Meanwhile Matt is confessing to Geoff that he's not sure if he did the right thing. Jan has a bad attack of alcohol withdrawal in the middle of the night. Ann tells Dennis that Meg has lost the baby although the tumour was benign. Jan's clerk Caroline brings some cash in for her during a visit. Lou tries to send Marlene round with Kath to collect numbers money but is stopped by Myra's return from hospital. Joan goes for a picnic with the Taylors. Dennis meets Myra again for the first time since he returned to work and tries to assure her she did the best for Pixie that she could. Lou empties a detergent container so she can ask for a refill as a cover to steal some meths from the storeroom. Lou gets five dollars from Jan and then gives her the meths, adding liver salts to make it "Bush Champagne". Meanwhile, Ettie is accosting Myra as "the Desmond girl" and complaining that someone has stolen her liver salts. Geoff welcomes Myra back and tells her she's been missed. Frank gets his hand put in a vice in the workshop by Matt and Geoff to frighten him. Myra recovers Reb's skeleton key from the mural. Officer Radcliffe halts a phone call by Frank when he refers to "Mum". Geoff brings the completed robot to the rec room. Geoff tells Myra he "wants" her and she says to go to his cell and he'll see her later. Yemil goes to ask Jan's advice for her trial but finds her drunk. Myra uses the key to get into isolation with Geoff for a torrid session of overage sex . Yemil calls for help for Jan assuming she is ill, but Lexie realises she is just drunk and tries to sober her up. Myra and Geoff are in bed together as an officer patrols outside isolation.
