  • Nikki is a bit disturbed to hear that she will have to shoot a few guards, especially after May refers to (fictitious) "Sally" who was selected before her and came to a nasty end. Ben tells Daphne he's continuing with her case and fails to notice that his flattery is having a strange effect on her. Meg interrupts as Lou threatens Nikki in the shower block. Pat reports to Ann that the emergency food truck has been involved in an accident: Ann decides to go to see for herself and possibly salvage some of it. Nora and the conspirators tell Nikki she has to meet Queenie and stress how "big" she is. The van driver refuses to let Ann remove any of the undamaged goods, but later is seen bringing back some of it to Wentworth with Pat Slattery. Lexie overhears the "escape" plot and passes it on to Lou. Daphne asks May's advice about what it's like being in love and May tells her about her long affair with a man called Clifford, who gambled away the proceeds of her cat burgling. Ann phones the Minister to make him expose Chaucer and Bullock. Nikki waits all night for Queenie to turn up, but it is next morning until Queenie and two of her "thugs" roll up in a car to give her another appointment to meet later for further instructions. Pat Slattery shows Ann the morning papers with the headline "MINISTER EXPOSES PRISON RIP-OFF", but she is disappointed that Chaucer is not named. Joan tries to claim credit for the exposure of Chaucer for the Union, but Ann reminds her the crucial factor was Julie discovering more invoices. Nikki is found asleep in a cell when she's supposed to be on skip duty. Jenny realises Daphne is in love with Ben and tells the other women that she knows that Ben is seeing Pippa. Joan clashes with Pippa over her use of the staff room to prepare for her classes. Lou and Lexie bash Nikki to try to find out about the escape. Ann warns Pippa not to antagonise Joan, and mentions that she's had a letter from Paul saying he's taking a photographic course in Paris. Daphne asks Pippa to design her a wedding dress as she's marrying Ben. Pippa takes this badly so Jenny has to explain to Daphne that she must have misunderstood what Ben said and he isn't in love with her. Nikki pleads with Willie to help her: she wants to back out of the escape plot.

Ann refers to "big brother" Paul, implying he is older than Pippa. No mention of him being in a wheelchair any more, so possibly he isn't.

Pippa goes round to Ben's flat to have it out with him. Cindy reckons the women are putting it on to scare them, but Nikki tells her she's wrong. Just as Pippa attempted to play the geisha for Ben, Joan tries to surprise Terri with a intimate Japanese dinner, but instead of a kimono Joan wears a pair of (men's?) silk pyjamas . Terri arrives back late after a long lunch with clients. The women try to support Daphne when she gets upset, but she accuses them of laughing at her behind her back. Ben and Pippa are just coming to an agreement (and having a quick snog) when their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Ben's secretary. Queenie rehearses her minions in the details of the plot to fool Nikki. Joan gets jealous when Terri talks a little too keenly about her new boss. Nikki comes to Queenie's to get instructions: she is told she's to work at an all-night cafe to make a pick-up. Willie worries they are pushing Nikki too far. Queenie enlists the cafe owner to play his part by working Nikki hard and not giving her any sympathy. Terri apologises to Joan for going off to bed alone in a huff, but Joan isn't in a mood to compromise. Nikki has to deal with a variety of undesirable customers, but when the dealer arrives he won't hand the guns over without money and gives her an address to go to later to collect. A customer accuses her of cheating him just as two policemen walk in, so she runs away. Queenie has to sweet talk the policemen to prevent them following her, but it means they lose track of Nikki. Terri offers to cook a meal for Joan to make up for disagreeing with her. Nikki doesn't turn up at Wentworth next day: Cindy tells the women she was scared what they would do to her, and Willie chips in that it was just what she's been trying to tell them. Ben visits Daphne and says he and Pippa have been discussing her. Daphne admits to Ben that she does have a crush on him because he's a "bit of a spunk", but seems happy enough to accept that he is having a relationship with Pippa. Lou roughs up Cindy for information on Nikki's failure to turn up. When Lou teases her, Daphne excuses herself from lunch before she is served claiming she has to water her plants: she is already upset when she meets Joan is the corridor, who makes more snide comments. Mervin asks Joyce if she'd like to change her name to Pringle: she assumes he is asking her to marry him, but he means it literally. May phones Queenie to find out what's happened to Nikki, but Meg overhears and reports it to Ann. Cindy takes a skewer from the kitchen when Mervin leaves the kitchen unsupervised and Lou takes the opportunity to torment Cindy a little more. Joyce has to tell Mervin she doesn't want to marry him after her awful experiences with Norm. Joan leaves work early and comes home to hear Terri in bed with her boss Barry . The women put Cindy through another nagging session so to shut them up (and we all know how she feels) she stabs May in the arm with the skewer. Daphne says goodbye to her plants and gets ready to hang herself.

Willie again refers to her favourite TV soap "Yesterday, today and tomorrow".

Joan seems to have borrowed the record of Japanese music from Pippa.

  • The women chase Cindy who takes refuge from them in Daphne's cell, where she finds Daphne hanging from the ceiling . Terri hears Joan leave and panics, which makes her boss wonder if she's really married. Nora uses her nursing experience to revive Daphne. May then faints from shock (or loss of blood?) Terri tells her boss she needs time and doesn't want to rush things. Cindy blurts out in front of Meg that she didn't mean to do it, but May and the others don't say anything. Cindy's parents are called to Wentworth. Nikki arranges to meet her mother in a pedestrian underpass: her mother pleads with her to come home, but Nikki is too scared that she'll be traced by the police and sent to Wentworth. Ann tells Cindy's parents she may have to face an assault charge if it is proved that she attacked May. When questioned by Ann, however, May invents an ingenious story to cover for Cindy, claiming to have fallen on a knitting needle. Cindy is therefore cleared of the charge and asks to be allowed to finish the programme so the women won't think she's chickened out. Rather belatedly, the women start to worry about Daphne: Julie says her condition couldn't have been too serious or she'd have been taken to hospital. Nikki calls on Queenie, who agrees to get May and Willie to use someone else to dispose of the prison guards if Nikki will go ahead and pick up the guns. Joan is brusque with Terri when she comes home from work and goes to bed early. Queenie takes Nikki to pick up the guns, but the planned "narrow escape" goes wrong and they are caught by the real police. At the police station, Queenie has to act tough in front of Nikki, causing the detective much puzzlement. Terri gets a call from Meg who tells her that Joan didn't work her late shift the previous day and realises that Joan must have found out, so she goes to Joan's room to tell her about her affair. Joan decides to give her another chance, and even suggests she could carry on seeing Barry so long as she doesn't tell her about it. Queenie asks the police to let Nikki off after scaring her. Nikki turns up for Wentworth next day, to the surprise of the police, Cindy and Ann when she is told. Daphne still feels very low even after Ann tries to boost her self-esteem by reminding her of the work she's done. She is then told that other doctors will be examining her with a view to proving that she doesn't suffer from PMS after all. Nora, May and Willie carry on with the absurd charade about an escape until Nikki pleads with them to let her off. Joan is moved to unburden herself to Meg after she makes a polite enquiry about Terri's new job and mentions that she's heard from Dennis who is slowly recovering. Fortunately for Joan, she is saved by a call on the staff room telephone just as she is about to really talk about her feelings. Daphne is examined: the doctors upset her (and even Meg) with their arrogant and agressive attitude until she smashes the surgery drugs cabinet door and threatens them with a piece of broken glass.

Eighties junk culture note: Nigel hands Tiny a Rubik's cube to solve, complaining it's too hard for him. Although invented in 1974, it didn't catch on outside Hungary until 1980.

  • The doctors turn conciliatory and tell Daphne they were only testing her. Meg and the doctors rush Daphne and manage to get the glass out of her hand. Lou meets up with Nikki in a corridor and tries to heavy her: Nikki tries to tell Lou there is no escape plan. Nora and May intervene in time to save Nikki. Daphne is put in solitary, even though she says she wants to go back to the other women. Dr Veitch describes Daphne as a "typical criminal personality" and wants her transferred to a psychiatric unit for tests. Ben is alarmed when he finds out from Pippa about Daphne's suicide attempt. Nora asks to take Daphne's tray up to solitary to try to calm her down. As it is the last day of the scheme, Nikki tells the women they won't be seeing her again and calls them a bunch of nobodies: Cindy has to point out that this is the closest Nikki can get to saying thank you. Ann is not hopeful that Ben will succeed in getting a restaining order to prevent Daphne being sent to a psychiatric unit. Lou makes up some extra tickets without telling Lexie. Ben tells Daphne he will accompany her for her tests. Nora tries to calm the women's fears about what wil happen to Daphne, which gives Lou the perfect opportunity to point out she is being weak and selfish and selling out her mates. Pippa has managed to wangle a commission for Lexie to design some T shirts: she will be paid $2,000 in advance. Joan picks Terri up from work, but Terri claims she has to go for drinks with a client. Ann shows Meg the papers for a new remand prisoner and says she expects her case will attract more media attention. When the raffle is drawn, Willie and Diana both have the same winning ticket, so Nora checks the undrawn tickets and finds other duplicates. Nora insists that Lou and Lexie will have to find the money to pay both winners and refund anyone sold a duff ticket. Pippa and Ben see Terri and Barry together in a restaurant apparently having a cosy tete a tete as their client has left the table. Eve Wilder is brought to Wentworth on remand charged with murder: she protests her innocence to Meg, and even the policewoman acompanying her says she can't believe Eve is a murderer. Ann finds out Eve hasn't applied for bail. The women notice the late activity in solitary and wonder if it's a new prisoner or if Daphne is being shipped out. Joan and Terri have another row when Terri gets back late, ending in Joan calling Terri a whore and Terri slapping her face. Eve tells Meg some of her story: the man she is accused of killing was her lover Robin but he was already married. Pippa is convinced Ben doesn't care for her, when he seems not to want to sleep with her until he knows her better. Joan finds Terri packing her things ready to leave, but convinces her to stay. For once, a case connected to Wentworth doesn't make the newspapers: Meg suggests this is because Robin Sanderson owns most of them. Eve's solicitor Adrian Foster arrives to see her and has to talk to her in solitary. Lou and Lexie fight when Lou refuses to give back the money.

Lou mentions Pixie and Cass, ironically to prove the point that if you are sent to a mental institution, you are never heard of again.

Ben uses the word "gay" rather than "lesbian" to describe Joan and Terri.

Eve tells Adrian her version of Robin Sanderson's shooting, claiming it was an accident. He apologises for not being able to take her case, and his request that she tells him again in every detail prompts a flashback sequence. Eve was in bed and hearing a noise and thinking it was a burglar aimed the gun she had handy at the bedside at the "intruder", but it turned out to be Robin himself when she turned the light on. Adrian tells her there's a snag: the post mortem showed the bullet passed straight through Robin's body, but the police can't find the bullet in the wall behind where Robin was standing. Lexie arrives in the laundry with lots of blusher to cover up her bruises. Daphne is taken into hospital (and accosted by a patient), but the doctors won't let Ben stay with her during the examination. Lou tries to find out what it was that Lexie had over Mervin. Daphne makes a mess of her tests due to the stress of the situation. Joan is sceptical of Eve's story and comments bitterly that being beautiful doesn't mean you must be telling the truth. Lou and Lexie front the Council, who all declare them guilty of cheating the women through the numbers game. Lou retorts that Nora is a hypocrite as she cared so much about the women she was trying to escape, so the conspirators have to come clean and tell her again there was no escape plan. Daphne panics when the nurse tries to take a blood sample to test her hormone levels. Mervin tells Joyce he's worried about Lou's snooping. Eve's story does make the papers after all: when Lou makes a snide comment, Jenny defends Eve and says she won't make her mind up until she's met her. Eve asks Ann to find her another solicitor, hinting that Adrian dropped out on medical grounds. Lexie refuses to tell Lou what she knows about Mervin. Ben protests at the way the doctors are treating Daphne and warns them he will try to discredit any evidence they may try to put forward in court. Eve meets the women in the rec room: Willie takes a shine to her immediately, but Lou's nasty comments make her turn on her heels and leave. Ann mentions Eve's case to Ben: he says he will contact David Adams to see if he can take the case. Jenny follows Eve to her cell to try to reassure her that she shouldn't be too worried by the women's initial reaction to her and persuades her to go back to the rec room. Terri and Joan can't find anything to do that they can both agree on. Mervin has got to the finals of the cookery contest. Terri's boss calls her at home which causes another argument between Terri and Joan. Lexie and Lou are eventually told their punishment: they have to run the gauntlet between two rows of women armed with bats, bottles and other objects. Alice objects to the way Nora already has decided what the Council's view on things will be. Joan asks for time off to sort out a personal problem, but won't explain any further. Ben goes to see Daphne's mother to get some of her background and to ask her to visit her in Wentworth. Lou visits Eve and tries to rile her by spilling nail varnish on her skirt, but Eve is not intimidated and gives Lou a present of two other bottles of nail varnish. Joan arrives home to find that Terri has left an enigmatic note ("I'll send for T.V. I don't know what to say. Sorry") with her key sellotaped to it .

When Jacko delivers Eve's meal , she mumbles an introduction which sound like "Hi. I'm Jack Har..." Hargreaves? Hardy? [Mark Caffrey comments: When Jacko speaks to Eve, she just says 'I'm Jacko'!"]
