  • Bev turns up for the dance practice and wants to know who will partner her: Marlene hestitantly volunteers. [Mysteriously, Lou Kelly is in two places at once: not only holding Bobbie down, but also at the dance practice]. Heather hears about the strike on the radio: her brother Bill tells her it was Dennis who was stoned. Marlene returns from the dance practice to see Bobbie's prize: Bobbie won't let her tell the police or go to hospital. Shane returns to Joan's house as his father has left him home alone for several days. After seeing what happened to Bobbie, Myra breaks in at the dance practice and throws Bev across the room, but it hardly seems to affect her composure. Dennis has to stay at the prison to avoid crossing the picket line again. Myra complains to Ann about Bev: Ann agrees to move her to a single cell, but as Myra won't lag, cannot do any more. Joan gets an anonymous phone call at home: it is not explained but is probably meant to be a reporter. Bobbie is unable to sleep thinking about the threat posed by Bev: Marlene admits she's scared too. Heather decides to go into work and her brother insinuates it's only to impress Dennis. Bev sells more tickets, and tells Bobbie she can't win the "consolation" prize twice in a row. A reporter visits Reb posing as her brother: Reb slips up and says Joan was standing in the doorway throughout the bashing. Dot attends hospital for tests: Gladys leaves her alone to go to the bank. Heather is stoned by the demonstrators when she arrives at work and is hit in the face. Dot clears the hospital waiting room by admitting she 's come from prison and she's inside for killing her boyfriend. The Major takes Shane and Joan fishing: he makes Shane promise to keep his health troubles secret from Joan. The social worker in charge starts to interfere and Myra tips the salad dressing over her to shut her up. Gladys returns to the hospital to find that Dot has walked off. Dot starts to walk back to Wentworth but can't hitch a lift so she hails a taxi. The social worker who was doused with salad dressing complains to Ann, but Ann won't take any action. Wentworth receives a phone call from Gladys to report Dot missing. Bobbie wins the $5, but Myra stops the draw for consolation prize. Bev hides in Judy's cell and tells her she's given her the second prize. She presses a hot soldering iron to Judy's neck, but is disappointed when Judy collapses almost straight away. Diedre tells Reb she has gambling debts of around $50,000 and no money to pay them: Reb uses this to make Diedre agree to get her out. The women collect pills to drug Bev. Ann warns Dot if she wanders off again she will be charged with escaping, and acidly tells Gladys not to make the same mistake again. Marlene puts the drugs in Bev's tea at mealtime, but Bev swaps their cups and amkes her drink it. A new social worker Rob Summerton volunteers for duty, and has to be prevented from showing round photos of his newly born twins. Myra and Judy find Marlene drugged in her cell, but there is no sign of Bev. Rob meets Bev in a corridor: she stabs him in the heart with the knitting needle and leaves him for dead .

  • After wiping it, Bev gives the knitting needle to Judy to give it back to Dot, pretending to have found it on the floor. Meg notices blood on Bev and takes her to Sister: Judy and Myra are dubious about Bev's story that she caught her hand on a coat hanger. Bev takes the opportunity while the Sister's back is turned to steal a hypodermic. Judy returns the needle and Dot finds blood on the handle of her locker: after opening the locker tentatively, they find there is no body inside. One of the social workers tries to humour Dot and Judy when they say they are looking for a body, so she feels under Dot's bed and screams when she finds Rob's body hidden there. Ann and the social workers search the prison for Bev. When she hears that the social worker was stabbed, Judy tells Ann about the knitting needle and hands it over. When they find Bev, she is leaning casually against a wall in the corridor. When they try to arrest her, she injects herself with an empty hypodermic to give herself a heart attack . Heather has returned home and hears on the TV news that a man has died at Wentworth and assumes it is Dennis. The social workers decide to leave, though Phillip decides to stay on. Frank Bolton visits Joyce wanting to take advantage of the situation: Joyce resigns as Union officer in disgust. Phil invites Meg for a meal, but she is flustered by his attentions. Joan tries to insist that her reinstatement is top of the list of demands she is to read to the press, but is forced to follow orders from the Union official and read out a genral statement about improved pay and conditions. Heather's mother tries to give up her job now she's found a "nice young man". Ann is informed the Union is prepared to return to work, though there are a still a few details left to settle: Meg wonders if Joan's reinstatement is one of them. Meg declines Phillip's invitation so he gives her his phone number if she changes her mind. The Major points out to Joan that she is optimistic in expecting help from the Union. Phillip talks to Bobbie, and reminds her that they have met before. He tells her of her mother's death, and asks permission to come again and visit her. Angela Adams is admitted on a six week sentence on forgery charges: Heather takes pity on her when she claims her boyfriend made her do it. Ann interviews Angela and says she is naive rather than stupid to have followed her boyfriend's orders. Diedre dons a white coat and sun-glasses while visiting Reb (which makes her look more conspicuous than ever: how many doctors would be wearing sunglasses on duty?) Angel tells the women that her parents died in an accident when she was twelve and her grandmother died a couple of years ago: Lou snidely remarks that Judy will look after her. Diedre knocks out the policewoman on duty and gets Reb out of hospital in a wheelchair. Myra explains Lou's remark to Angel and tells her not to be afraid of Judy, as she wouldn't force herself on anyone. The dance pratice is interrupted when Joan returns to work and sneers that they didn't expect to see her again.

Angela tells Bobbie and Marlene about her boyfriend tricking her into signing dole checks. Ann points out to Joan that Erica's signed statement calling for Joan's reinstatement is not the same as exoneration and that the attack on Reb is not the only complaint against her. Diedre drives Reb to the family holiday home. Dot isn't selected for the waltz team, but is asked to be coach to keep her quiet. Joan confronts Heather about her accusation: Heather won't be intimidated and goes further, hinting that Joan helped Marie to escape. Reb tells Diedre she has no intention of letting her get any of the money, and she didn't consider how they would be able to get to it without attracting the police's attention. Joan discovers Bobbie, Marlene and Angel having a feast on stolen goods from the kitchen. Heather confesses her love for Dennis and stays overnight at his house. Ann and Judy meet Mr Montgomery, the sponsor of the waltz marathon: Judy is worried that she is being given all the credit for the idea. Judy stops Joan picking on Angel and loses buyup for a month. Reb sees her escape has made front page news . Angel stirs it between Myra and Judy by telling Judy that Myra warned her to be careful that Judy doesn't seduce her. Dennis tries to tell Joan his opinion of her wasn't the reason he didn't support the strike. The women try on the track suits donated by the sponsor. Dot questions Angel's account of the fire that killed her parents. and unwittingly makes an enemy of her. Myra suggest the women use Joan's vulnerable state and accuse her of assault whenever they can. Shane is taken back to his father until the custody hearing. Angel starts to ask questions about the women and seems interested that Bobbie's parents never visit her. Judy snaps at Myra when she asks if she is all right. The Major tries to hint to Joan that she should give up her job and come to live with him. Judy tells Angel about her pacemaker and the danger from magnetic fields. An anonymous death threat arrives at Wentworth addressed to "the person in charge" promising retribution "A LOVED ONE IS LOST YOU ARE GOING TO PAY" . Judy moves away from Myra at dinner when she admits she's been filling Angel in on the "people to avoid". Dennis's dinner date with Heather is interrupted by the arrival of his wife Doris. • Doris tells Dennis she has left the man she ran off with and she wants to come back to him. The women hear that Marie Winter has been recaptured, and hope she is sent to Blackmoor. Angel sees Myra set off to follow Judy and tells her that Judy is annoyed with her for wasting her time trying to help her "junkie" daughter Kay. Ann decides to take no action over the threatening letter, even though Meg insists it is different from the usual type they (apparently) get all the time. Myra tries to clear the air with Judy, but her hostile attitude confirms what Angel has just said, and they have another argument. Heather arrives for the dinner date and meets Doris: after Doris leaves, Dennis has to tell her that Doris isn't his "ex"-wife as he and Doris are still married. Joan plans to move away and open a bookshop with her father (even though he lives in a place with the same name as her tragic prisoner lover "Forbes"..?). Diedre is brought to Wentworth : Ann evades her request to share with Reb, and tells her that Reb was not as seriously ill as it seemed and though she is in the infirmary, she has made it clear that she doesn't want to see her mother. Joan gets a call from Cynthia at Blackmoor, and asks her to have a "talk" with Marie Winter. Ann calls in Inspector Rouse as she's found out the letter was delivered to the front gate by a boy, who obviously didn't know what it was: as she says so she opens what turns out to be another threatening letter . Angel sets off the fire alarm: when no-one will own up, Ann stops the women's buyup and threatens to stop the marathon if anything else happens. Frances realises from her reaction to a mention of Reb's name who Diedre is: Myra tells her to back off when she accuses her of turning Reb over to the police. Angel tells Dot that Marlene has been accusing her of lying and informing to the officers, which is confirmed when Marlene makes jokes about her special diet at lunch. Joan catches Angel in a corridor and when she challenges, Angel rips her sleeve and threatens to compromise Joan , saying that she's so sweet that anyone will believe whatever she says. Barbara Krantz, the PR person appointed by the Department to handle the marathon, tries to make Judy into her preconceived idea of her as a lovable granny and sends Joyce with the impossible task of making Judy look "sprauncy". Myra tries to find out what has turned Dot against Marlene. Marlene shows off the new mascot for the team, Willy Bear. Inspector Rouse says he will check out the note and Ann will be guarded round the clock. The other women are very disappointed that none of them are getting any credit for the marathon. Phil returns as a voluntary counsellor. Angel looks on as the women squabble over the disagreements she has started. Bobbie sees Phil in the new visiting area: he tells her that her father wants to see her, and that she has a four year old sister Cheryl. The women meet children from the deaf school and Judy notices one little girl Debbie sitting apart from all the others. The mystery guest Cliff Young arrives to support the marathon attempt. Ann is instructed to put Dennis on suspension as the Union has told its members not to work with him. Angel tries to charm Marlene to give her Willy Bear permanently, but she says she can't as her father gave it to her. Joan visits Reb in the infirmary to promise to cause her a lot of trouble in return for Reb's accusation. Ann finds another threatening letter on her mantelpiece despite the police guard on her flat.

At Shane's custody hearing, his father claims he and Shane are getting on fine then when evidence of his violence is presented, he tries to turn the court against Joan by accusing her of bashing prisoners. Joan states that she sees no problem looking after Shane as well as holding down a job. Shane says he would rather live with "Auntie Joan" than with his father. Ann tells Heather that Marie Winter has made a statement implicating Heather for smuggling drugs into Wentworth and helping her escape.
